Indeed, downloading and installing a theme is an easy process but have you ever wondered if you can create your own theme easily? If you did and want to try creating a Chrome theme without going through the docs and theme manifest and all that wacky stuff, ChomeTheme.net can help.
ChromeTheme.net is a free web service for Chrome theme enthusiasts and developers who want to be a creator and share Google Chrome Themes online in the easiest way possible.
Create a custom Chrome theme
Step 1: Go to the ChromeTheme website and click on the big blue ribbon on the homepage that says Create Chrome Theme Online.
Step 2: You will now be redirected to the theme creation page. This page is divided into two parts, the left side is the configuration panel and the right side is a virtual chrome browser that will show you how the theme looks in the browser. Changes are displayed in real time.
Step 3: We will start by giving our theme a name along with some description in the start tab.
Step 4: Go to the Image tab now. This is a small complicated step so you can upload and add images to different areas of your browser like frames, background, and buttons on your computer. You can use a simple photo editing tool like Irfanview to crop and resize images according to the official Chromium theme community guidelines. A combination of creativity and a patient nature is essential for this step.
Step 4: Change your theme’s color scheme and Tone to match your image.
Step 5: Once everything is set up, you can click on the package to deploy your theme. You can package or install the theme directly on your Chrome browser, or you can download the .crx theme file to use on another computer. You can also upload your previous work here and edit it.
The screenshot below shows my creation which took about 5 minutes to complete. I know it’s a bit trivial but I’m sure with a little effort and extra time I can improve, and so can you.
With that, you can always download and use one of the many online themes available from their repository to give your browser a cool new look.
Don’t give up if you fail on your first try, keep trying and I’m sure once you master this tool you’ll probably never search for Harry Potter or Angry Bird themes on the net because creating a theme yourself sounds more appealing.
