Musixmatch is a great companion to your music library. It has a floating lyrics player that magically appears whenever you start playing a song in a supported music player. The lyrics will sync with the song position and everything. How wonderful. The only problem? There is no offline mode. You cannot download lyrics for offline use. There is no option to scan and download all lyrics.
Today we are going to look at an app that does just that. It’s a simple, free app called QuickLyric (Update: It doesn’t appear to be on the Play Store anymore. But you can get it from F-Droid and download it easily). If you’re a tinker, check out the source on GitHub.
If you’re traveling or if you live in an area that doesn’t have a constant internet connection but you want to always have access to lyrics for all your songs, then QuickLyric is the app for you.
Musixmatch, refuses to show lyrics when not connected to the internet.
What QuickLyric Can Do
QuickLyric is a simple lyrics writing app for Android. Just start playing a song on any app as it supports every major music player. Spotify users will need to activate Broadcast mode and Poweramp users will need to activate scrobling.
QuickLyric, being a basic application, does not support asynchronous lyrics scrolling. Meaning the lyrics won’t automatically grow with the song, like with Musixmatch. But if you can get around that drawback, you can make QuickLyric your default lyrics app.
To make it usable you will need to go to Setting and enable some features first. From Additional lyrics source you can add more sources, like Bollywood, Hip-hop and more. Also, activate the option called Automatically save lyrics. This means that any lyrics you search or look up will be automatically saved.
Then check Auto-refresh lyrics. So as the song changes, so do the lyrics. You can also activate Notification for when a song changes. Simply tapping on the notification will take you to the lyrics.
How to Batch Download Lyrics with QuickLyric
Let’s get to the most important and simplest part. Now that you have the right options turned on, download the lyrics for every song on your phone.
From the sidebar, go to Saved lyrics, then tap the icon in the toolbar that looks like a combination of a download and a cloud icon. And choose This device. The app will scan your phone and tell you how many songs you have. Depending on the number of songs, the download may take a long time.
For me, downloading the lyrics for 321 songs took about a minute. If you have 3,000 songs, this may take 5-10 minutes. So be patient.
You will receive a notification with progress details. Download is done.
For me, QuickLyric downloaded the lyrics for most of the songs (260 out of 321). As for the impossible ones, I got them just by playing the song when connected to the internet, which is weird. And finally, for outstanding cases, I can manually search and download lyrics. When searching manually, QuickLyric supports LyricWiki and Genius.
