Write Out Of Office Messages Or A Vacation Response In Gmail

Gmaillogo

When it comes to emailing, professional etiquette says that you should always respond to emails. It’s a little tricky when you’re on vacation or cutting your navel with your computer.

Let everyone know that you’re on vacation

or for anything else that’s especially important if you also use Gmail to send professional emails (who don’t!).

Vacation replies keep people aware of your status – you won’t be able to reply because you’re away, as well as any other details like when you’ll be back. It’s very easy to set up autoresponder for your Gmail account. Think of holiday responders as your email answering service. If set up properly with the right type of message, it’s an easy way to enhance your professional image.

So, open Gmail and set up automatic replies in just a few steps.

Steps to set up vacation autoresponder in Gmail

Step 1. Find the ‘Gear’ icon at the top right of your account page. Click Setting on the drop-down menu.

Step 3. Enter the date range for which you plan to be away or simply enter the start date for the leave application to kick in.

Step 4. Enter a topic and compose holiday responses as you see fit. You can make it simple, detailed or simply funny if your Gmail account is a personal account.

Step 5. Check the box next to Only send feedback to people in My Contacts if you don’t want everyone who emailed you to know that you’re away.

Note: Google Apps users will also see an option to only send feedback to people in the same domain. If you check both of these boxes, only people in your contacts and domains will receive an automatic response.

Step 6. Click Save Changes to enable holiday feedback.

Gmail displays a banner at the top of the page that displays the subject line of your autoresponder. Click End now to prevent Gmail from automatically sending responses. To edit a response, click Holiday settings.

Close your email and take off for your vacation. Your vacation respondent will do the rest.

Note: Emails and spam sent to the mailing list you subscribe to will not receive a holiday response.

Is this little knowledge helpful? Have you seen the vacation autoresponder widget?
