How to Delete YouTube Search History on Mobile and Web

When you have young children at home using YouTube on your TV or smart desk, you may have an unrelated search history in the app. Sometimes you may need to hide inappropriate search results from others in the YouTube app. You can use the search bar menu or go into settings to clear your search history. Here’s how you can clear your YouTube search history on phone and web.

YouTube provides all the tools to manage your data from the app. For starters, you can even clear your YouTube watch history from the app. Here’s how to do it.

YouTube uses a similar interface on both iPhone and Android. In the screenshot below, we’ll be using the YouTube for Android app. You can follow the same steps on the YouTube iOS app and clear your search history.

Note: This trick is only available on the YouTube Android app. It won’t work on the YouTube iOS app.

Using the Settings Menu in the YouTube App

Step 1: Launch the YouTube app on your phone and tap on the circular account image in the top right corner.

Step 2: Tap Settings.

Step 3: Select the History and privacy menu.

Step 4: Click Clear search history and confirm the same.

That will delete your YouTube search history from all YouTube apps on all devices. Additionally, this will reset all video recommendations, but you may still be affected by activity on other Google products.

Manage YouTube search history

Google designed YouTube’s algorithms to recommend videos based on your search and viewing history. When you delete your search history from your YouTube account, you may notice some irrelevant video recommendations on the homepage feed. Don’t be surprised when you start seeing unnecessary videos in your feed.
