PDF is a dominant and commonly used document format, so it’s only natural that there are conversion tools for every type of need you can use. Converting a web page into a PDF document is easy with a number of online converters and browser extensions. If you regularly pass an HTML page through a conversion program, you may also find yourself in a situation where you need to convert multiple web pages in one go. Taking things one by one is a waste of time when you have a handy Firefox extension to tackle batch jobs.
This Firefox add-on is no longer available for use.
Print Pages to PDF is an 8.5MB Firefox add-on that can create a single PDF from any number of open browser tabs and bookmark folders. The size of the add-on might deter some, but when you consider the add-on, Print Pages to PDF is an essential download. That is, if your computer can handle the extra load.
After installing the Firefox add-on, you can access it through the right-click context menu on any active tab.
The options are pretty much self-explanatory. You can choose to print only the active tab with all graphics and images, print only the text (with the hyperlinks intact), or do the same with all open tabs.
You can also right-click the bookmarks folder and choose from two available options to print bookmarked web pages into PDF documents. This is useful because you don’t have to open each web page individually in a tab and print them out together using the method described above.
The add-on retrieves pages and converts them to PDF in a flash. If the links are not accessible or the pages have moved, the process will show an error.
To speed up your print job, you can bookmark all relevant pages into a temporary bookmarks folder and print them out together.
Behind the scenes – Options
Printing pages to PDF is hardly a silly tool as there are quite a few options that you can configure. As the screen above shows, you can disable autostart if you want to change a few things on the go. You can tick the menus where you want to integrate printing options by right-clicking.
You can set some general options like color or grayscale and compression to reduce the file size of the final document. The document layout can also be optionally configured from the general settings. You can include a table of contents on the first page of the PDF.
PDF (Webpage) – Style is something you should carefully consider to establish the final look of your PDF document. The options here can determine whether external and local links should be kept, whether any username or password is needed to access the site, if the content needs to be resized, etc.
Understanding the multitude of options in the add-on’s settings is not difficult as every checkbox and field is explained when you hover over it. If the settings seem overwhelming to you, just use the defaults. Your PDFs should appear fine.
Try Print Pages to PDF and let us know if that’s what you’re looking for.
