Previously on iPhone, you only had to download various third-party editing apps to use them as extensions in the Photos app. With iOS 16 running on your iPhone, the Photos app is loaded with nifty enhancements to help you make all your edits without leaving the app. You can even add watermarks to photos using the Photos app itself.
The Photos app lets you copy edits from one photo to another. That saves your time and faucets to avoid repeating the same process. In addition, you can use this feature and apply edits to a series of photos simultaneously. We’ll walk you through the steps to copy and paste edits in the Photos app on your iPhone.
Note: We used an iPhone running iOS 16 Public Beta to take the screenshot. The feature will be available later this fall to everyone on iPhones running iOS 16 or later, iPads running iPadOS 16 or later, and Macs running macOS Ventura or later.
How to copy and paste edits in the Photos app
Let’s say you want a particular retouching style or aesthetic for some of the photos you recently clicked on from your iPhone. After clicking a photo in low light, you may want to increase the brightness or adjust the contrast. Normally, you would open each photo and edit them to apply the same look. With iOS 16, you can copy and paste edits from one photo to another.
Here’s how you can copy and paste edits in the Photos app. For reference, we took photos inside a restaurant and will edit them in the Photos app.
Step 1: Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Select and open the photo you want to edit.
Step 3: After editing the photo, click on the three horizontal dots icon in the upper right corner.
Step 4: Select Copy Edit from the list of options.
Step 5: Open the photo where you want to paste the same edits.
Step 6: Tap the three dots in the upper right corner after opening a new photo.
Step 7: Select Paste Edits from the list of options.
The Photos app will apply all copied edits to the new photo.
Duplicating edits is useful after your photos appear underexposed or you may want to retouch them.
How to copy and paste edits in a series of photos
Applying edits to individual photos can be tedious. Luckily, you can paste those copied edits into a series of photos and edit them all at once. Here’s how you can copy and paste bulk edits using the Photos app on your iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Click the Select option in the upper right corner.
Step 3: Tap and select all the photos that you want to paste with the edits.
Step 4: After selecting the photo, tap the three dots in the bottom right corner.
Step 5: Select Paste Edit from the list of options.
You will notice all the edits pasted into your selected photo. If you select more than 5 photos, you’ll have to wait a few seconds until the app applies your edits.
How to undo edits in the photo app
If you want to remove your edits and revert to the original version of your photo, you can undo your edits in the Photos app by following these steps.
Step 1: Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Select the edited photo that you want to restore to the original look.
Step 3: Tap the three dots in the upper right corner.
Step 4: Select Revert To Original from the list of options.
You will notice that the photo has been restored to its original look.
How to undo individual edits in the Photos app
Previously, you had to revert to the original photo and start editing it from scratch. However, you can also undo individual edits while editing photos using the Photos app with iOS 16 on your iPhone. Here’s how to do it on your iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Select a photo and start editing it.
Step 3: To undo an edit, tap the back arrow in the top left corner.
You’ll see a message at the top about the reverted edit.
You can also tap the forward arrow next to the back arrow icon to redo your edit. The same message will appear on your screen.
Editing your clicks allows you to create an aesthetic specific to your taste. You can save a lot of time by copying and pasting your edits with the Photos app. However, you will probably have a lot of duplicate photos on your iPhone.
