Heat is the arch nemesis of any electronic device – and your iPhone has several hardware systems and software algorithms to keep the temperature at bay. However, if you notice your iPhone getting unusually hot, here’s how to check the temperature of your iPhone.
In most cases, your iPhone automatically takes action to mitigate high temperatures. For example, it automatically puts charging on hold if temperatures exceed a certain limit. Or, your iPhone may prevent you from using it if it heats beyond a limit and you have to wait until it cools down.
Therefore, Apple has designed the iPhone in a way that you don’t need to keep tabs on the temperature manually. That said, if you’re interested to know the temperature of your iPhone, here’s how you can do it.

1. Know if Your iPhone Is Overheating Using an Infrared Thermometer
An infrared thermometer has to be the best choice to measure the temperature of your iPhone. It not only gives precise measurements but also doesn’t require you to bring the thermometer in contact with your iPhone.
Moreover, the results from the infrared thermometer are almost instantaneous; hence, they help you efficiently measure the temperature of your iPhone.
Moreover, your iPhone does not display any information regarding the internal temperature of your iPhone. Furthermore, it looks like Apple does not allow any third-party apps to retrieve the temperature of your iPhone. Therefore, measuring the temperature externally with a thermometer seems the way to go.
However, there is one way to check the battery temperature on your iPhone legitimately. Read the following section to know more!
2. Check Temperature Using a Shortcut
PowerUtil is a Shortcut that extracts the battery temperature from the analytics file on your iPhone. Here’s how to install and use the Shortcut on your iPhone.
However, to use this shortcut, you must enable ‘Share iPhone Analytics’ on your iPhone. So, we have divided the methods into two parts. The first part shows how to check if you’ve enabled analytics on your iPhone, and the second part shows the steps to measure temperature.
Part 1: Check if iPhone Analytics Is Enabled
Step 1: Open the Settings app and select ‘Privacy and Security’.
Step 2: Select ‘Analytics & Improvements’ and turn on the toggle for ‘Share iPhone & Watch Analytics’.
If you see that the toggle is enabled, move to the next steps. If you just enabled it, you need to wait 24 hours for your iPhone to record analytics that will help the shortcut determine the average battery temperature.
Part 2: Use Shortcut to Measure Battery Temperature
Step 1: Visit the official website of the PowerUtil shortcut from the link below. Tap on ‘Add to Shortcuts’.
Step 2: Tap on Add Shortcut to add it.
Step 3: Now, open Settings on your iPhone and tap on ‘Privacy & Security’.
Step 4: Select ‘Analytics & Improvements’.
Step 5: Select Analytics Data.
Step 6: Open the analytics file with the most recent date.
Step 7: Tap on the share icon.
Step 8: Tap on PowerUtil. Select Always Allow or Allow Once to permit the shortcut to access the analytics file.
The shortcut will now run and extract the average battery temperature information from the analytics file.
3. Check Battery Temperature From the Analytics File
If you do not want to install any third-party Shortcut on your iPhone, you can manually check the analytics file for your iPhone’s temperature readings. However, it takes some effort.
However, like the previous method, you must enable ‘Share iPhone Analytics’ on your iPhone. So, here’s how to go about it.
Part 1: Check if iPhone Analytics Is Enabled
Step 1: Open the Settings app and select ‘Privacy and Security’.
Step 2: Select ‘Analytics and Improvements’ and turn on the toggle for ‘Share iPhone Analytics’.
If you see that the toggle is enabled, move to the next steps. If you just enabled it, wait 24 hours for your iPhone to record the analytics to show you the average battery temperature.
Part 2: Measure Battery Temperature
Step 1: Open the Settings app and tap on ‘Privacy & Security’.
Step 2: Select ‘Analytics & Improvements’.
Step 3: Select Analytics Data.
Step 4: Open the analytics file with the most recent date. You will have to copy the contents of the analytics file.
Step 5: Open the Notes app and paste the contents onto a new note. Tap on the share icon and select ‘Find in Note’.
Step 6: Search for “last_value_AverageTemperature”. The value next to this phrase is the average temperature of your battery.
