How to Change The Title Bar Colors in Windows 10

I recently installed Windows 10 Technical Preview as a dual-boot operating system on Windows 7, and when Abhijeet asked me what Windows 10 looks and feels like, I told him it was too minimalist for me. with desktop. I mean, it’s not that I don’t like the minimalist design, but the persistent white on the Title bar looks really bad. I’m sure Windows 10 users will agree with me.

Today I will talk about a simple tweak using which you can get back the title bar color on Windows 10 and that too without installing any third party software.

Note: Administrator rights on Windows 10 are required to apply the trick.

Change Windows 10 title bar color by editing files manually

Step 1: Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder C:\Windows\Resources\Themes. I want to open the Run command prompt and copy and paste the path. This is what the folder looks like on an unmodified installation of Windows 10.

Folder Contents

Here, copy and paste the Aero folder into the same folder and press Continue on the Window that requires administrative rights. When a dialog box appears stating File access deniedchoose option Do this for all current entries and click skip button.

Once the folder is copied, you will have an additional folder called aviation – Copy. We don’t have to rename it now.

Step 2: Rename aviation – Copy folder into the window and open the folder. Here you will find two files, aerolite.msstyle And aviation.msstyle. Rename the file aviation.msstyle ARRIVE windows.msstyle. If you don’t see the file extension, open See tab and check option File name extension.

Windows

Having done that, open the en-US folder and rename it aero.msstyle.mui file to windows.msstyle.mui.

Step 3: Go to folder C:\Windows\Resources\Theme again and rename the file aero.theme ARRIVE windows.theme. Finally, right click on the file and select open with option to open the file with notepad. Make sure you don’t select the option Always use this option to open .theme . files.

Select file

In Notepad, look for a title called VisualStyles, then replace the line Path=%ResourceDir%\Themes\Aero\Aero.msstyles with Path=%ResourceDir%\Themes\windows\windows.msstyles and save the file.

For those who like the easy way

Download the zip file that I edited on my computer and unzip it C:\Windows\Resources\Themes. Once all the content is extracted, apply the windows.theme file and change the colors.

Conclusion

That’s how you can get the color back on Windows 10 and make it match the wallpaper you have on your desktop. However, if you want everything back to factory settings, apply the aero theme and delete the windows folder and theme files.
