S Voice is an intelligent personal assistant exclusively for Samsung that allows you to control your device with voice commands. Whether your hands are tied or you’re just looking for a shortcut, S Voice comes in handy and streamlines your mobile experience.

How to use S Voice

A good mobile app should be user-friendly, and with S Voice it’s easy after two basic steps.

  1. Open S Voice in one of three ways:– Press the S Voice icon in the App OR– Double tap the button Home page OR Button – Speak Wake-Up Command while on the Lock Screen (this feature must be enabled, but we will)
  2. Say what you want to do As long as S Voice is listening, the app will chat with you, fulfill your request, or offer to do a web search of what you said.

Sounds pretty simple right? Now, let’s see what S Voice can do for you.

S Voice, who says her name is Galaxy, can be pretty sweet at times. But no matter how hard I try, I can’t get her to date me!

Hands-free mode

Also known as driving mode, hands-free mode reads incoming text messages aloud and allows you to answer calls with voice commands. This is great for driving, but make sure to turn it off when you’re done – especially if you’re commuting to work or going to the movies.

How to know if S Voice is listening or not

S Voice must listen for voice input to receive your commands. However, it doesn’t actively listen all the time because first of all, that would be scary and second, it would consume a lot of battery.

52

To see if S Voice is actively listening to your voice input, check that the microphone button is lit. When you open the app for the first time, the Galaxy will be heard and the microphone button will glow blue.

However, if no voice input is detected, S Voice will go into standby mode and ask you to press the microphone button or say a wake-up command before you can continue.

62

Once it is activated, wait for the beep to make sure your command is fully heard. In certain situations, S Voice will prompt you again for more information. But if your Galaxy determines it doesn’t need any more information, it may go into standby mode and give the message “Speak your wake command to wake me up”.

Personalize your settings

Open the S Voice app and tap the menu button. Next, choose the Setting pop-up button. This will give you access to the app’s list of customizable features. Browse through these features and choose the ones that work best for you.

The default wake-up command is “Hello, Galaxy,” but you can change it to any 3-5 syllable phrase you want. To do this, make sure that wake-up commands are enabled, and then select Set wake-up command. This will take you to a screen where you can save various wake-ups to respond to your own accent and accent.

Select Wake up S Voice and you will be prompted to repeat your chosen phrase 4 times.

Wake-up commands can be used at the Lock Screen (enable it in Settings) or when the app is currently open. Once placed, your personalized orders will be detected passively. Besides opening S Voice, you can also set wake-up commands for the following:

Integrate S Voice with other Voice Command Options on your Samsung Device

Asking to compose an email will return an error in S Voice, but there are still different ways to use voice commands to dictate your messages. Instead of asking S Voice to write the email, ask S Voice to open your email client. Start a blank email, go to the compose box, and tap the microphone icon on your virtual keyboard. I have found the original Jellybean keyboard to be exceptionally accurate with voice input.

Another useful tool is Google Now, which provides news, weather updates, and voice command options. You can use Google’s standard app to compose emails and add recipients, but it’s not fully refined; after the initial block of text is entered, Google will only Send or Cancel uses voice commands, so if you want to edit your text or continue dictation, you’re still taken to the email client.
