Today, TikTok is all the rage, no matter where you go in the world. These hugely popular social media creators are incredibly good at choosing soundtracks for their funny, bizarre, and controversial videos. Can’t get a catchy tune from a video out of your head? Well, I can understand the itch of figuring out the details of a song or tune. Here are a few ways to identify or find songs used in the TikTok app.
Whether you want to listen to the entire track on repeat or use the same track to create your video, you need to identify the song first. We are here to help.
Let’s get started.
1. Shazam
Shazam is a music recognition app that works on Android and iOS. It also integrates directly with Siri and Assistant. Just download the app, create a free account and set it up.
Play that cool TikTok video on a speaker or another smartphone and fire up Shazam to identify the song used in the video. Shazam will record the audio, compare it with its database, do some magic, and tell you all you need to know. That includes the name of the song, artist, and album, among other details.
You can directly open it in Apple Music or the Spotify music streaming app after Shazam finds the song used in the TikTok video.
If it doesn’t recognize the song, I suggest you try it at least one more time. Maybe the first time recording didn’t go well, or you were too late to hit the Shazam button, or even had a bad internet connection.
Apple recently acquired Shazam, and the service has had some improvements. It’s free to use with no in-app purchases.
2. Sound Hound
SoundHound got into the music identification game late but made a name for itself pretty early on. That’s because it quickly finds songs playing around it, including songs that were once used in TikTok videos. The process remains the same. Play a TikTok song or video and record it on SoundHound.
The app will not only find the TikTok song, but also display the video and lyrics at the bottom of the screen. Lyrics will be highlighted in real time as the song plays. Like Shazam, all your recent TikTok song discoveries will be saved to your account for future reference.
SoundHound works with Spotify and Apple Music so you can quickly create playlists of all your favorite TikTok videos. That will require an in-app purchase, which will cost you $6.99.
3. Music
Can’t find that TikTok song in Shazam or SoundHound? While the chances of that happening are slim, there’s always a chance you’ll find a rare song. Perhaps a region or folk song? Try Musixmatch. They claim to have the largest catalog of lyrics you can search on your phone. Just type in a few phrases you’ve heard on TikTok and search. You may have to try a few different phrases from a song you’ve heard before seeing the correct results. You may see more than one song displayed. So you’ll have to listen to each one before you find the one used.
Once you find the song used in a TikTok video, you can see the full lyrics, song title, artist, and album, and how to translate the lyrics into a foreign language of your choice. You can also link Musixmatch to your Spotify account to manage playlists.
Musixmatch recently updated their app to bring it on par with Shazam and other music identification services. That means you can use it to directly find the songs used in TikTok videos instead of having to type in the lyrics. You can try that as they have a large library of lyrics and soundtracks. The pro version starts at $3.99 and offers access to more lyrics, ad removal, unlimited translations, and group mode.
Note: YouTube Music is also pretty good at identifying tracks based on the lyrics you type in the search bar. I’m not surprised to see every song from every corner of the world finding its way to the platform.

TikTok has raised a red flag and the controversies seem to be making news lately. It was also the first Chinese social media site to become famous in the Western world. While I understand the urge, I’ve seen some crazy videos on the platform. Please, don’t harm yourself or others for the sake of some views and popularity. And continue to find songs used in TikTok videos using the apps shared in the above app.
