Focus mode is one of the best additions of iOS 15 on the iPhone. Apple has replaced Do Not Disturb mode on the iPhone with Focus. In a classic Apple move, Focus mode works on all Apple operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. That’s not all. 1. Use Time-Based Autofocus
The first option is time-based automation in Focus mode. This is most useful for those who enable/disable Focus Mode at a specific time.
Let’s say you want to turn Focus Mode on at a set time in the morning and turn it off at a specific time in the evening. Follow the steps below to create the setup.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Go to the Focus menu.
Step 3: Select the Spotlight profile that you want to automate.
Step 4: Tap Add Schedule or Automate.
Step 5: Select Time from the following menu.
Step 6: Turn on Schedule and choose the interval for Focus mode. While you’re at it, choose the days of the week.
For this tutorial, we set time-based automation for the Write profile from 9 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday. So the Focus profile will automatically activate at 9am and end at 6pm.
2. Enable Location-Based Focus Mode
Apple has you covered if you want to enable or disable location-based focus. For example, you can turn on the Work Focus profile when you arrive at work, and automatically turn it off when you leave your location. Here’s how to set it up.
Step 1: Open iPhone Settings and go to the Spotlight menu.
Step 2: Select your Focus on Work profile and tap Add Schedule or Automate.
Step 3: Select Location.
Step 4: Search or Enter Address from the search bar at the top.
Step 5: You can set the location radius using the slider below. Check out the live preview of the area from the minimap at the bottom.
Step 6: Tap Done at the top and you’re ready to go.
Another use case could be during gym hours or running in the garden. Set these location-based Spotlight profiles for your Fitness or Jogging route and enjoy hours of quiet.
3. Enable App-Based Focus Mode

Step 1: Go to iPhone Settings and open Focus Mode.
Step 2: Select a Spotlight profile that you want to automate.
Step 3: Tap on Automation from the Turn On Automatically menu.
