Instagram Stories is growing like anything. In November 2017, it reached 300 million daily users. I think it’s well worth it, mainly because it’s easy to use and Instagram is constantly introducing new features to engage users. It’s safe to say that every week or at least every two weeks, Instagram adds a new feature.
They recently added a native Portrait mode to Stories to blur the background in photos and videos. They also continue to increase their sticker collection with cool stickers.
Now they have come up with another cool feature. You can now share your own or others’ Instagram posts in your Stories.
Essentially, you’ll now be able to re-share videos and photos to your Story with the appropriate credits as their username will be displayed in the Story.
Without further trouble, see how to do this.
Add your own Instagram posts to your stories
If you are a regular Instagram user, you may have seen some Stories like ‘New post alert, check posts now’. It’s an age-old tactic to drive traffic from Stories to posts. However, one must take a screenshot of the post and upload it to their Story to do so.
But with this new feature, you’ll now be able to share your Instagram interactive posts directly to your Stories with a single tap.
Here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: Launch the Instagram app on your phone and go to the post you want to add to your Story.
Step 2: Click the Send To icon below the photo. On the next screen, tap Add post to your story.
Step 3: You will be taken to the Story screen. Tap the Your Story button to upload it to Your Story.
Similarly, you can also share other people’s posts to your Story. To do so, you need to tap the Send To icon that appears below their photo, then tap the Add Post to Your Story button.
Note:
Edit Post in Stories
In either case, you can improve your Story the way you would with a regular Story. You can add text, stickers and doodle on them. However, you cannot add anything to the top of a post in Stories. You can only draw or add on the available background.
Speaking of background, Instagram takes the highlight color from the post and applies it as the background of the Story. In case you don’t like it, you can change it by swiping in the background.
Furthermore, you can also rotate and resize posts in Stories using the old hold and pinch method. However, you cannot change the caption of the original post.
How to turn off sharing posts to stories
By default, Instagram allows others to share your posts in their Stories. However, some people may not be comfortable with this, even if they have a public profile. Thankfully, Instagram has provided a way to turn this off, similar to the last active status feature.
Interesting facts:
To turn off resharing of Instagram posts, follow these steps:
Step 1: Launch the Instagram app and go to the profile screen. Tap the three-dot menu present in the upper right corner in Android phones. On iPhone, tap the gear icon next to the Edit Profile button.
Step 2: In Settings, scroll down and find Allow others to share again. Tap the setting to turn off the toggle.
Users will now not be able to add your posts to their Stories. The ‘Add a post to your story’ button will not be available.
However, you can still share your own posts. Disabling this setting won’t have any effect on that.

Other features
The posts you share in Stories are not static. When you tap a post inside a Story, you’ll get a View Post button. Tapping the button will take you directly to that post.
User tagged
If you share someone else’s post in your Story, they won’t be notified about it. So, to be on the safer side, we recommend tagging them manually in your Story.
To do so, when you’re on the Edit Story screen, tap the Aa icon at the top. Then type @ followed by the user’s initials. Instagram will show relevant users at the bottom. Select the user you want to tag.
Finally, upload the article. The other person will now receive a notification that you’ve tagged them in your Story.
privacy settings
Unlike regular Stories, where you have the privacy settings icon when creating a Story, here you don’t have that option. In case you want to hide this from any of your followers, you must change the privacy settings after uploading the photo.
To do so, tap the three-dot menu in the bottom right corner and select Story Settings from the menu. On the next screen, select the followers you want to hide.
To privately share a post with a friend, I usually tap the Send To icon and select the friend to Direct Message them. Now, sometimes, I add a comment to a post as a separate message.
Using this new feature, I can now write on the same post or even add stickers to express my feelings.
To do so, follow these steps:
Step 1: Click the Send To icon below the post you want to share. Hit the Add Post button to your story.
Step 2: On the next screen, customize the image as you like with text, stickers, and emojis. Then instead of hitting your Story button, tap the Send To button. On the next screen, tap the Send button next to the friend(s) to whom you want to send the modified post.
Note:
Two in one
This new feature makes it easy to share content. Now you don’t need to do everything twice. You can only upload one post and then share the same post in your Story.
We love this feature. What exam does your child take?
