Create You Own Stock Watcher Widget (& Make it Stay on Top)

Are you a regular player on the stock market? If so, you must be familiar with a number of websites and tools/widgets that help you browse through the information and continuously monitor the rise and fall of the stock price.

How about creating your own custom stock tracker that stays on top of other windows and keeps an eye on your favorite stocks while you’re working on other things? Sounds interesting? Let us see how to get it done.

Steps to create a stock follower

To achieve our goal, we will use a tool called Top Clone, which can duplicate any window and keep it on top of other running applications. While this tool has a lot of potential, we will only use some of its basic features to create widgets.

Additionally, we will fetch our data using the Google Search bar (which gives you results as you type the stock symbol). At the end of the post you will know that you can choose any source.

Note: This is not a guide on how to use Top Replica. For details on that, read this article.

Step 1: Open Google in your browser and enter the ticker you want to track. Keep tabs highlighted and unminimized (make sure of these two throughout) the browser.

Step 2: Install On Top Replica (if not already) and launch the app. A blank gray dialog box will appear.

Step 3: Right-click on this interface, navigate to Select window and select the app/browser in which you opened your stock info. In my case it was Google on Firefox (as shown in the picture).

Select browser program

The result of this is that the browser tab/window is copied into the look and feel of the Top Copy. And this is what allows you to innovate with this tool.

Step 4: This time, right click on the mirror window and select Choose a location. This because I’m sure you won’t care about the whole window. In our example, I need the Google search word area to display stock results.

Step 5: Pull diagonal lines on the area you want to cut out (only the clipped part will remain on the cloned view) and tap Finished on the help dialog that appears with.

Step 6: That’s it; Your widget is ready and will always be on top. You can resize the window by dragging the edges and placing it conveniently.

Quick tip: If the source you choose has static results and you need to refresh the page to update the results, you can configure auto-refresh on that tab. That will make the widget really dynamic, always providing the latest information.

Conclusion

So you’ve got some stock in Facebook? Why not use our method to track it for a few days. You know, maybe the price gets so high that you want to sell it and make a quick buck. ????
