As the Windows 8 release date draws to a close, Microsoft has rolled out the consumer preview of Office 2013 aka Office 365. Office 2013 includes many new features but the first thing you’ll notice is the Desktop. Metro Splash model with a completely new user interface to match the look and feel of Windows 8. The product is designed for PCs and tablets running Windows 8 but also runs on Windows 7. However, support for sessions Older versions of Windows have been withdrawn.

Microsoft has taken the cloud very seriously, and just like they did on Windows 8, on Office 2013, they also integrated SkyDrive cloud storage by default. Users can now easily open, work and save their files on SkyDrive. That’s not all, if you’re not connected to the internet, that shouldn’t be a problem. Office will maintain a local copy on your system and will update it in the cloud as soon as you reconnect to the internet.

The menu looks more or less the same when compared to Office 2010 with the left side containing all the menus while the right screen contains related options. The only difference is the Metro UI, and if you’re running it on Windows 8, it really looks great.

Presenter View for PowerPoint is the latest addition to the brand new Office 2013. In presenter view, you can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel, and highlight and navigate slides using touch input, if your device supports it.

OneNote 2013

One note

With Office 2013, Microsoft seems to have brought its OneNote note-taking tool to the fore. An instance of OneNote is always running on your PC in the system tray, so you can quickly take notes and send it to your OneNote account. It also includes a screen cutter to save screenshots directly as a note.

The People Card is another great addition to Office 2013, and it includes all the information of a contact you need at a glance. You can link the people tag to your Facebook and LinkedIn accounts to sync all the details from the web.
