Can you write on Android? Yes you can. All of this? Basically anything you want. You can write anything from short notes, to articles like this, to a movie script.
If you no longer feel uncomfortable with the small screen size (it’s the age of big screen phones anyway) and you feel that you can get your writing done on your phone if you know the right tools (read the app), then post this for you. So, without further ado, here’s how to get your writing done efficiently on Android.
1. Write with JotterPad X
Android doesn’t have as many writing apps as iOS (really, the difference is huge) but that doesn’t matter because it has a great app – JotterPad X: Writer. It’s a one stop solution for all your writing needs on Android.
The app is free but has limitations. You can import documents from Dropbox, revert to previous versions, even write in Markdown (or script in .fountain format), all for free.
But if you’re willing to pay $5 for an in-app purchase, this simple app turns into a full-featured text editor. In-app purchases will give you access to research tools, where you can display full-featured dictionaries and thesaurus in a pop-up, all without leaving from the application.
If you’re going to write on your Android tablet, with or without a Bluetooth keyboard, then the JotterPad X is what you need. It has an expandable keyboard to add the most used shortcuts, multiple themes and fonts, and a really clean user interface.
2.Manage your thoughts and ideas
If you are going to write a lot, you will think a lot. And while you can fool yourself into thinking you’ll remember an idea the next morning, you know you won’t.
It is better to jot down any thought and when it comes to mind. The way I do it is I keep two different note-taking solutions. One to quickly jot things down and one to record the details as I actually sit down and do my research.
For simple notes, I recommend Simplenote. The Android client works well and you can also access your notes online. There’s also Google’s own Keep. Having them as widgets on the home screen helps a lot.
For a more granular approach to taking notes, when you need better formatting, Evernote is the best. It’s a great app for creating an outline.
3. Look up definitions without leaving the app
JotterPad X’s paid upgrade lets you have a dictionary right inside your writing window, but if you don’t want/can’t pay for that in-app purchase, there’s a workaround free of charge.
I wrote about it in detail here. You can use it in any app that has a share menu built in (unfortunately JotterPad X doesn’t). After installing WordLookup, just select a word and from the share menu select word lookup. The app will show the definition as a pop-up for a few seconds. And you will know if you have used the right word or not.
4. Download a dedicated dictionary app
To get better acquainted with words you don’t know, get a dictionary app. You have a lot of choices. You can get an offline dictionary app or view the set options like the Dictionary.com app.
5. Check grammar and spelling with ginger
Ginger Page & Grammar Keyboard uses the best Android engines available and the company’s excellent English language engine to give you a streamlined writing experience.
You can write inside the app and use the app’s excellent grammar and spell check engine, but that’s like buying a Ferrari and driving it at the speed limit.
Enable the Ginger external keyboard to use it to write in apps like JotterPad. This way, you get JotterPad’s powerful writing tools as well as great spelling and grammar checking, all on one screen.
Ginger’s spell check works differently than other third-party keyboards. It will not automatically correct anything. When you finish a sentence or a paragraph, scroll through the corrections, swipe up to delete what you think the app is wrong, then tap the check mark and all changes will be applied together. a time.

The best combination

I also tried writing on my Android phone and on my iPhone. I could never do that. But I have found a great use case for these applications. I use them to edit and proofread a long article. When I’ve written so much during the day, the last thing I want to do is look at my default text editor.
So I switch to an iPad or Android, and when I use Dropbox to save my files, they’re on all my devices. This self-contained, one app per screen environment is great for editing. It helps you focus. And thanks to something like the Ginger keyboard, I can also deal with silly typos and grammar mistakes.
