Tony Ganios died on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 64, after being hospitalized for a spinal cord infection. His fiancee, Amanda Serrano-Ganios, shared the news of his death on social media
on Monday night, revealing that he died on Sunday morning following surgery for a spinal infection.
“The last words we said to each other were ‘I love you,’” Serrano-Ganios wrote. “Love is an understatement. You are everything to me. My heart, my soul and my best friend. #I love you #tonyganios”
Born in 1959, Ganios debuted as Perry in the 1979 film; “The Wanderers”. He then starred in the 1981 cult teen-sex comedy Porky’s and its two sequels; two sequels, 1983’s Porky’s II: The Next Day and Porky’s Revenge in 1985
Ganios appeared in the films; Back Roads and Continental Divide. He also played in 1984’s Body Rock, 1990’s Die Hard 2, 1991’s The Taking of Beverly Hills, and 1993’s Rising Sun.
In “Die Hard 2”, Ganios appears as a mercenary casually murdering a church caretaker and memorably meeting his death when Bruce Willis stabs him in the eye with an icicle.
He appeared in five episodes of the 1980s TV series Wiseguy as Mike “Mooch” Cacciatore, and he made a guest appearance in an episode of Scarecrow and Mrs. King.
Ganios semi-retired from acting after the film “Rising Sun”, with brief appearances in three films between 1991 and 1993, where he revisited his matchstick-chewing; The Wanderers hero as an adversary for Sean Connery.
