Raja Gelek Death: How Did Raja Gelek Die?
Raja Gelek 85, is said to have passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Hospital Teluk Intan. His son, Ahmad Zaini Mohd Daud said that his father died peacefully after being hospitalized on Tuesday, December 12, 2023
The singer suffered from multiple health issues, including diabetes and heart conditions.
“He had been suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart problems for some time, and his condition worsened over the last three days,” said Ahmad Zaini.
Ahmad Zaini also said that his father was supposed to have both his legs amputated as a result of diabetes but doctors chose not to do so as his blood pressure was not stable.
“Doctors delayed surgery on his legs thrice,” said Ahmad Zaini.
Raja Gelek was known for his slick dance moves during his heydays. He released twenty-one (21) studio albums beginning with Anak Yang Pertama in 1972.
In 1985, he won the Asli music contest Pesta Dendang Rakyat. His hit songs include; Cek Mek Molek, Sirih Pinang, and Raja Gelek, a duet with One Nation Emcees.
In 1991, he was awarded the Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perak which carried the title Datuk from the late Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak.
As a result of ill health, Raja Gelek announced his retirement from singing in 2020 and was admitted to Teluk Intan Hospital several times after complaining of breathing difficulties.
In November 2020, Raja Gelek underwent angioplasty surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN), Jalan Tun Razak.
