I love listening to audiobooks while cycling, commuting or just doing housework. And it’s easy to see why. I can finish a book in a week or two, while also completing other tasks. It was a novel of more than 300 pages that I would normally spend nearly ten hours of my life writing.
It is true that the reading experience, whether you prefer the hard copy or the E-ink display Kindle is completely different. And when it comes to books like The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, I tend to agree with hardcore readers. But there are plenty of mystery, youth, and even educational books that you can enjoy as audiobooks. Go ahead, steal a few hours of time from space.
Audiobooks are not music. You measure them in hours, not minutes. Audiobooks are usually about 10 hours long and are divided into 30–50 chapters, each 15–30 minutes. They also affect your memory and bandwidth, easily stretching from 200 MB to over 1 GB.

But first, download an audiobook
- Open Culture has a selection of 550 free audiobooks you really want to listen to, available in MP3 format.
- LibriVox is the Gutenberg Project of audiobooks. That’s where all the free audiobook apps get their good stuff from. You can directly download ebooks from the website and then transfer them to your Android phone when you want.

How to copy audiobooks to Android
Now that you’ve downloaded several audiobooks, make sure there’s only one audiobook (all chapters included) in a folder.
Next, connect your Android phone and make sure your PC can detect it. Go to the phone drive on your PC and create a new folder named audiobook. Paste all ebook files here.
It is important to keep different books in different subfolders because the application we will be using can be assigned to a folder, which acts like an audiobook folder. This way neither the app nor you will be confused.
Listen With Smart AudioBook Player
When it comes to listening to audiobooks on Android, Smart AudioBook Player is that app. If you copied in the book as stated in the step above, then you are ready to go. Just tell the app in which folder they are stored and the app will take care of the rest.
The app displays book metadata and details like the duration of the entire book along with the current chapter. You can add bookmarks (really useful) and details about the characters you want to remember in real time. There’s also a sleep timer, lock screen buttons, and playback speed options.
Just like any other good audiobook app, this one remembers where you left off, so even if you come back a few days later, it will pick up where you left off. A normal music player just takes you back to the beginning of the track (chapter).
The app is free to download and you get a 30-day trial of the full version, which is a $2 upgrade. To do that, you can control playback speed, character list, bookmarks, lock screen control, cover search and many more features.
Even after the 30-day trial ends, if you don’t choose to make a $2 purchase, the app will become unusable. The basic functions for defining audiobooks, creating libraries, and remembering pauses should work just fine.
