When one buys a streaming device, such as a streaming stick or an Android Box, one expects them to play a wide variety of apps and videos. Sadly, not all devices offer every video streaming service. It’s all thanks to Google and Amazon, who have been scrambling for their services like kids.
While Amazon’s apps are generally available on all platforms (that’s Amazon, duh!), the Prime Video app is selective because it doesn’t work with the Mi Box and most Android TVs. So how to watch Amazon Prime videos on such TVs?
Well, there are several methods to bypass the restriction. Here are four tested methods that allow you to watch Amazon Prime on your Mi Box.
1. Transfer from laptop
The easiest way to watch Prime Video on Mi Box or any other Android TV/Box without installing anything is to mirror your laptop to the TV. Your laptop must have Miracast enabled for this feature to work. You will also need the Google Chrome browser.
Here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: Open Google Chrome on your laptop and go to www.primevideo.com. Sign in to your Amazon account and play the video.
Step 2: Click the three-dot icon in the top right corner of Chrome and select Cast from the menu.
Step 3: Your Mi Box will show up in the pop-up box. Choose it. Videos from Prime will start playing on your TV.
Similarly, you can also cast Prime video from your phone using the Show Cast or Wireless option.

2. Watch Prime Video on Chrome Browser
With this method, you first need to sideload the Google Chrome browser on your Mi Box. Then open Amazon’s Prime Video website.
Don’t be confused. Here is the detailed process:
Download Google Chrome
Sideloading means installing apps purchased from an unofficial store. This feature is useful when the app is not available in your country or is not supported on your device due to manufacturer limitation. When downloading apps, please make sure you download apps from trusted sources.

To sideload Google Chrome, download ES File Explorer on your Mi Box from the Google Play Store. You will need a file explorer to view and install Chrome APK files from cloud storage. Open ES File Explorer and navigate to Network > Cloud Drive. Here add the cloud storage you use.
Now, download the Chrome APK file on your phone or laptop from APKMirror which is one of the trusted sources to download APK files. Then move it to the cloud storage you linked above in ES File Explorer.
Launch ES File Explorer and open the APK file you downloaded. If you sideload for the first time, you will be asked to enable the ‘Install from Unknown Source’ setting. Enable it to install files.

View downloaded apps
Downloaded applications are not displayed on the main screen of Mi Box. To open them, you will have to go to Settings > Applications. Click on Chrome and hit the Open button to launch it.
Alternatively, to ease those steps, you can install Sideload Launcher from Play Store on your Mi Box. Sideload launcher shows all apps that you have not installed from Play Store.
Once installed, Sideload launcher will be available in Apps on Mi Box. Click on it to see the loaded applications. You’ll find Chrome here. Open it up.
Watch Amazon Prime
Now that you have successfully installed Chrome, it’s time to open the primevideo.com website on it. However, there are a few things you need to take care of before proceeding.
First, the Chrome that we installed on the TV is designed for Android phones, so navigating through the remote won’t be convenient. You will have to install the CetusPlay remote app or any other app that provides a trackpad for easy navigation.
Second, if the mobile version of Prime doesn’t work properly or requires you to install the Prime app, click the three-dot icon in the top right corner of Chrome and enable Desktop Sites . The Chrome app will now work like a desktop for a better experience.
3. Download Amazon Prime
Another way to watch Prime videos is to download its APK file directly on your Mi Box. To do so, first download the Amazon Prime Video APK from here. Then install it on your Mi Box using the side loading method mentioned above.

Once installed, use Sideload Launcher to view or go to Settings > Apps > Amazon Prime. Click Sign In and select Sign Up on the Amazon website. Now follow the onscreen instructions to link the app to your Amazon account. Once done, you’ll be able to watch Prime videos on your TV.
4. Install Aptoide Launcher
You can also install a third-party app store, such as Aptoide, to install unofficial apps. Since Aptoide supports Amazon Prime video, you can use it to install Prime Video on your Mi Box.
To do so, first get the Aptoide APK on your Mi Box as mentioned above. Once Aptoide is installed, launch it and find Prime Video in it. Install it.

If only there was an easy way to watch Prime Video on the Mi Box. Until Google and Amazon resolve the differences, the methods above will let you watch Amazon Prime Video on your TV.
