Set Up Outlook.com Using IMAP on Windows Live Mail – Guiding Tech

title

Outlook.com activated

IMAP

functionality that most other email service providers have been using for a while. This is an important change because it allows for a very useful method of retrieving and reading emails.

Previously, Outlook.com messages read, moved, deleted, or sent from the client did not update this information to the server. The default method will only make changes to the way you view messages in the client, but this update enables the ability to manipulate server messages. So now, with IMAP enabled, when you open your mail on another computer, you can see all the changes you made while using the client.

Most of us are used to this with Gmail and other providers, so if you’re on a Mac, read how to do the same with OS X Mail.

On Windows, you can follow the steps below to enable IMAP in Windows Live Mail.

Conclusion

I recommend using IMAP for every email address. It can be confusing when you reply to a message from a customer without IMAP and then forget that you did so when you check your email elsewhere. Everything is always up to date and working together, making this update so important.
