Filter Android Play Store Reviews Based on Phone, App Version

One of the advantages of downloading applications from a store, be it Windows, Android or the iOS App Store, is that one can read user comments and gauge the usefulness of an app before actually downloading it. However, when compared to Windows and iOS, reviews made on Android’s Play Store are from people using all kinds of different Android phones and devices, and this can at times cause confusion.

Also, the reviews are not categorized based on the app version they were made on, which kinda makes the reviews worthless so to speak. Suppose a person running an older version of Angry Birds on an entry level Android gives a 1 star review just because the game lags on his device, this will totally mislead you, isn’t it?

So, today I will show you how you can filter these reviews based on your phone model and application version to get a better insight.

Filtering Reviews on Android

Step 1: Search for the app you want to read the reviews for and tap on it to open it. In the post, we will be reading and filtering reviews for Go SMS Pro.

Step 2: After the app description opens up, scroll down to the user review and comments section. Play Store lists the last three reviews made for an app and you would have to tap the See all button to view all the reviews made by the users for that particular app.

Step 3: After Play Store lists all the reviews, tap the Option button just below the Average review box and check the filtering options you would like.

Play Store will now filter all the comments for you.

Filtering Reviews on Computer

If you are browsing the Play Store on your computer browser, you can filter the comments in exactly the same way.

Browser Review Filtering

After you open the application page, navigate to User Review tab and select the device and app version located under the User Reviews section.

Conclusion

This trick can be very helpful at times. I’d suggest whenever you have an app update on Play Store, you must filter and read user reviews for your device and the latest version of the app. From what you can see, while updating Go SMS Pro, I got some negative reviews and thus for the time being I decided to stick with the older version of the app. Makes sense, no?
