You know what they say: timing is everything, even when it comes to text messages. After all, the last thing you want is to send a late-night text to your boss for fear of forgetting it tomorrow. Well, you can save yourself the trouble by scheduling messages instead.
Whether you have an Android or an iPhone, you can send delayed text messages and forget about them. This post will show you how to schedule messages on iPhone, Samsung, and other Android devices. So let’s get started.
How to schedule text messages on Android
If you’re an Android user, you’ll probably use Google Messages as your phone’s default messaging app. And if that’s the case, here’s how you can schedule text messages using the Google Messages app on Android.
Step 1: Open the Messages app on your phone. Use the Start Chat button to create a new chat or open an existing one to type your message.
Step 2: Now press and hold the Send button until the ‘Scheduled Send’ window appears. Choose from the available time to send the message.
Note: If pressing and holding the send button doesn’t bring up the Schedule Send window, try updating the Messages app from the Google Play Store first.
Alternatively, you can use the date and time pickers to set a scheduled time for the message.
Step 3: Once done, on the Send button will appear a small clock, indicating that it is a scheduled message. Click that Send button and the message will be scheduled.
Once sent, the message will have a clock icon next to it. You can use that to make any changes to scheduled messages. For example, you choose to update the message content or change its schedule by selecting the Update Message option.
Alternatively, you can also choose to send the message immediately or delete it entirely.
That’s all it takes to schedule messages in the Messages app on Android. Please note that your phone needs to be connected to the internet for text scheduling to work.
How to schedule text messages on Samsung
If you have a Samsung phone, the Samsung Messages app will come pre-installed instead of Google Messages. Fortunately, you won’t have to switch because Samsung Messages can schedule messages to be sent over a fairly long period of time. Here is how it works.
Step 1: Open the Samsung Messages app on your phone. Tap the compose message button or open any existing chat.
Step 2: Tap the + icon to the left of the text field and select the option Schedule messages.
Step 3: Enter the desired date and time and then tap Done. Now enter the message in the text field before hitting the Send button.
That’s it. Your message is now scheduled. Like Google Messages, if you want to make any changes to the message before sending it, tap the message and choose from the available options to instantly send, delete, or edit the message.
How to schedule text messages on iPhone
While Scheduling Messages on iPhone is not as direct as on Android, it is still doable. The default iPhone messaging app doesn’t have a message scheduling feature, but you can take advantage of the Shortcuts app on your iPhone to send delayed messages from your iPhone. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Launch the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Although the Shortcuts app comes pre-installed on devices running iOS 13 or later. If your device is running on an earlier version, you will have to download the Shortcuts app from the App Store.
Step 2: Switch to the Automation tab and click on the Create Personal Automation button. Next, select the ‘Time of day’ option from the following screen and choose your preferred time to send the message.
Step 3: In the Recurrence section, select the Monthly option and select the date on which you want to send the message. Then tap Next in the upper right corner.
Step 4: On the next screen, tap the Add Action button and tap the Apps option from the menu that appears.
Step 5: Scroll down to find and tap the Messages app. Here, tap on the Send Message option.
Step 6: Now edit the Message and Recipient fields before pressing Next. Review the message details and click Done.
You can later edit the details of the message by tapping on them.
Once done, iPhone will send the message at the set time. However, one big caveat with this method is that it is automated. So the message will be delivered to that person on the selected date every month.
Therefore, make sure to remove the automation once the message is sent. To remove an automation, swipe from right to left on the automation.
Also, this method seems to work perfectly while sending scheduled messages from your iPhone.
On time every time
As we have just seen, almost all phones these days support delayed messages in one way or another. Besides the methods mentioned above, many specialized third-party apps like Do it Later, Pulse SMS, Textra, etc., claim to do the job efficiently. With these apps you also get some extra perks like scheduling emails, tweets, fake phone calls etc.
