Discord is a great platform to communicate and build a community of like-minded people. You can join various servers and chat rooms to interact and share your thoughts. However, sometimes you may want to leave the server you created or joined for some reason. If you are in that situation, this article will show you how to quickly and efficiently leave the Discord server.
It doesn’t matter if you created a server or are joining someone else’s server. It’s pretty easy to remove yourself from any server on Discord. Let’s start with leaving the server you created.
How to leave the Discord server you created
Creating a Discord server can be easy, but building a user base is a task. There are several reasons to leave the server you created. One of the common reasons is simply a loss of interest in the topic or community on which the server is based, or you may want to take a break. For whatever reason, follow the methods below to get rid of it.
1. Delete the Discord server you created
The steps are pretty much the same on both Windows and Mac. However, we will demonstrate this on Windows. You can also check out our detailed guide to understand how to delete a Discord server.
Step 1: Launch Discord on your Windows or Mac and navigate to the server you created and want to delete.
Step 2: Click the V (arrow) icon next to the server name.
Step 3: From the drop-down menu, go to Server Settings.
Step 4: Scroll down and click on Remove server option.
Step 5: Enter the server name in the confirmation window that pops up and click the Remove Server button.
Your go. You have successfully deleted the Discord server and you are also exited from it. Users who are part of the server will also lose access and the server will not appear on their Discord dashboard.
If you don’t want to delete the server but instead want to leave while maintaining the community, move on to the next method.
2. Leave your Discord server
When you create a Discord server, you become a super admin/owner of the server, which means you have all the rights to manage the server on your terms.
If you want to leave, you can either delete the community directly (as discussed in the method above) or transfer ownership of the Discord server and delete yourself, keeping the community alive. Here’s how to go about it.
Transfer ownership of Discord server on desktop
The steps are the same for both Mac and Windows. For the demonstration, we will be using Windows. Follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Launch Discord on your Windows or Mac and navigate to the server you created and want to delete.
Step 2: Click the V (arrow) icon next to the server name.
Step 3: From the drop-down menu, go to Server Settings.
Step 4: In User Management, click Members.
In the Server Members screen, find the user to whom you want to transfer ownership of your server.
Step 5: Hover over the name and click on the ellipsis icon next to it.
Step 6: From the context menu, select Transfer Ownership.
Note: Think twice before transferring ownership, as ownership can only be regained if another user transfers ownership back to you.
That’s it. You have transferred ownership of the server to another member without any problems. It is quite important to note that you cannot transfer ownership to a bot or a placeholder account.
