Send Links, Phone Numbers, Directions From PC to Android

There are several ways to send information to your Android phone (or any similar phone) from your computer. You use an online note-taking tool like Evernote that always syncs your data, or you can use tools like Dropbox or SugarSync (obviously you should have their respective apps on your phone). Heck, you can email yourself if you want to keep things simple.

All of the above methods are very interesting but they take from a few seconds to a few minutes and are not effective if your urgency and haste are unmatched. In such situations, you need a faster solution to send the data that you are currently reading on your computer to your phone, so that you can immediately continue using the same data on your phone on the go.

What if I told you that you could send all the information to your Android phone (be it website links, driving directions, phone numbers) with a single click?

Great huh? So let’s get started!! Download and install the Google Chrome to Phone Extension for Chrome browser and the Google Chrome to Phone app on your Android device.

Note: The Chrome to Phone app is a country-specific app, and if you’re having trouble downloading it, please read our guide on how you can install country-specific apps on your Android device.

Once you’ve installed both apps, we’re ready to go. The extension in your browser will act as the sender while the app on your phone will act as the receiver. According to network basics, we need an access point for the two devices to communicate and in the current case your Google account will work as one.

When you launch both apps, you will be asked to grant access to your Google account for data communication. Once you have the app set up, all you need is an active internet connection at both ends.

Choose an account

To send the link, simply click the Chrome to Phone button in your browser while you’re on that particular page. Links will be sent to your phone and you will be notified of the same. If you have chosen to automatically launch links, it will open the default browser on your device and load the web page for you.

If you submit some app-specific links like Google Maps, Market, YouTube, etc., it will automatically launch the respective app for you on Android. You can also highlight a phone number and press the button on your browser to directly launch the dialer app with the phone number already written on it. All you need to do is press the call button.

My judgment

Extensions can be useful for people who are often time-constrained and tend to drop content/data mid-read because they need to go out immediately. In fact, for other Android users, this will also be a useful tool as it takes data synchronization to the next level by directly opening apps and all, which is certainly likely to excite some Android fans and productivity buffs.

So far I have not faced any problems using it. If you are a Chrome fan and own an Android masterpiece, you will definitely love this combination!
