Restore Recently Closed Tabs in Chrome, Firefox, Opera & Internet Explorer 9

When I work in my browser, I often get stuck with an overloaded tab strip with lots of tabs open at the same time. With so many tabs open at once, my laptop slows down in no time, and so sometimes out of frustration I close all my tabs to reclaim virtual memory without realizing I’ve closed an important web page without even bookmarking it.

If you think I’ve been scammed, you’re wrong. Now I can easily recall all my accidentally or recently closed tabs across various browsers with just a few clicks. How? We will see exactly how in this article. The browsers we will be using are IE 9, Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

Internet Explorer 9

There are two ways to restore a tab in Internet Explorer 9. You can reopen a closed tab or restore a browsing session. To reopen a recently closed tab, right-click any active tab and select reopen closed tabs from the context menu. You can keep repeating the process if you accidentally close multiple tabs.

That is, reopen the closed tab

Again, if you accidentally close your browser, you can reopen the last browsing session using the command bar. By default, the command bar is hidden and therefore you will have to enable it. To enable the command bar, right click on an empty area near the tab strip in internet explorer and click on Command Bar to activate it.

From now on, whenever you want to resume your last browsing session, click Tools -> Reopen last browsing session.

Restore tabs in Google Chrome is more or less the same as in Internet Explorer 9. To reopen each of the most recently closed tabs, right-click an empty area of the tab bar and select reopen closed tab. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+T.

If you accidentally close your browser or if it crashes, you can always restore the complete browsing session so you don’t have to start from scratch each time. This process is very well explained by Himanshu in a previous post.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox1

In Firefox, all you need to do is click the big orange Firefox button and select History – > Recently Closed Tabs. Now you can restore selected tabs or all tabs as per your requirement.

Opera

If you are an Opera user, you can restore your recently closed tabs by clicking on the Closed Tabs icon (small trash can) on the tab strip and selecting the desired tab from the list of available tabs.

Opera's Closed Tabs

You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+T to open the most recently closed tab here.

Conclusion

All the above tricks will help you to reopen the most recently closed tab but one can always open the history with the common shortcut Ctrl + H and search for recently closed tabs in all the above browsers.
