Pokemon GO Porygon evolutions, how to get Porygon2 & Porygon-Z

If you’re looking to evolve Porygon into Porygon2 and eventually Porygon-Z in Pokemon GO, you’re going to need the help of two special evolution items.

The Kanto region’s Porygon remains one of the most unusual Pokemon of all time, so it’s no surprise that it also has an unusual evolution method. Here’s everything you need to know to get Porygon2 and Porygon-Z in the mobile game.

How to evolve Porygon into Porygon2

Porygon can be evolved into Porygon2 with the help of 25 Candy and an Upgrade.

The Upgrade is a special evolution item that has a very low drop rate when spinning PokeStops. You’ll have a higher chance of getting one after spinning PokeStops for seven days in a row, but that isn’t guaranteed.

Evolving Porygon2 into Porygon-Z

Porygon2 can be evolved into Porygon-Z with the help of 100 Candy and a Sinnoh Stone.

While the Candy cost is a lot higher for this evolution, the Sinnoh Stone you’ll need is generally easier to come across than an Upgrade, as they’re sometimes given out as rewards for Special Research or Timed Research.

You also have a chance of getting a Sinnoh Stone by spinning PokeStops, especially for seven days in a row, although it’s not guaranteed that you’ll get one this way as the item that drops is chosen at random.

Can Porygon be Shiny in Pokemon GO?

The good news is that Shiny Porygon is available in Pokemon GO, which means Porygon2 and Porygon-Z can also be Shiny when evolved! You can see what they look like in the image below.

These are three of the best-looking Shinies in the game, in my opinion, with each Pokemon getting a lovely blue and pastel pink colour scheme. They might not be of any use in the GO Battle League, but they’ll look pretty in your collection.

As with any Shiny, though, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to get one. Shiny rates for the average Pokemon are estimated to be around 1-in-500, although this can be boosted during special events.

One of the best times to get a Shiny Porygon will be during the Porygon Community Day Classic event on January 20, 2024, as the chances of encountering a Shiny will increase to around 1-in-25!
