Creating a good video message is one of the hardest things to do, especially on mobile devices. Yes, you can open the camera app and start recording while babbling, then just send the video to your friends. But what are we? Animal? Are not. We have standards when it comes to things like this.
What you want to do is create a great video with transitions, music in the background, and maybe text on the screen to narrate what’s going on. We already have these powerful mini computers in our pockets, it would be great if we could do it all on our iPhones.
Of course, it’s not that there are no applications that can do this. I have tried a lot. But there’s always something wrong with them. Downloading iMovie is a 700 MB investment. The Animoto app won’t let you download videos before signing up for a one-month ($5) account. The same goes for countless other apps.
Playback for iOS
Replay is the best app for creating videos on iPhone and iPad. It was introduced during Apple’s keynote. How does that give a seal of trust?
Playback is fast and usually runs without any hiccups. It makes great use of CPU and GPU in iOS devices. It will run great on iPhone/iPad with A8 processor. But even on my shabby old iPhone 5, it doesn’t get me excited and dry.
After choosing settings, the video processing took a long time but the app did not let me down.
The playback feature is great for creating video messages where you just want to turn photos into a more interesting slideshow. You can add cool transitions, soothing music and text. I used Replay to create a happy birthday video when I didn’t really want to put my face in it (we all have).
Important: Replay is a video maker app, not a video/photo editing app. So, before you start, make sure you have all your videos ready. You can use an app like Clips to trim the video first.
You can do it to create a video to wish someone well on their anniversary or wedding, or… basically anything you can think of.
How to use Playback for iPhone and iPad
You start by adding photos and videos from your Camera roll. Then arrange them in the order you want. Next, you will see a preview.
Below you will see three sections. The first one is to select preview. The other is for editing selected photos and videos. Here you can add text to the photo.
The third option allows you to add music to the video and the last option is for settings. By default, the application formats videos as squares, suitable for Instagram. But you can switch to cinema mode (16:9). There is also an option to change the speed to slow or fast.
Why choose Playback
The presets are the most fun part of Playback. You get three presets – Grammy, Epic and Dandy for free. There’s so much more – you can pay for it individually or buy it all for just $9.99 (21 presets, unlock future upgrades, remove logos).
One of the things Replay is doing right is making money. It doesn’t lock you out. You are free to use the entire application without paying. But the application will add the watermark, the logo of the application. You can pay $1.99 to remove it. Very worth the money.
