Join Images Horizontally or Vertically on iOS and Android

As a citizen of the Internet, you always come across paired images. Two or three screenshots merged into one. A long conversation thread is concatenated horizontally (9gag anyone?). Maybe a collection of memes. Participating images are everywhere. We’ve shown you how to create them on OS X and on the web. Now is the time to use your visual connection skills on mobile.

If you need to stitch a few images to quickly upload them to your Tumblr/WordPress blog or post to Twitter, simply use these apps on your Android device, iPhone or iPad. No need to go to the web or rush for laptops!

Pro tip: Once you’ve stitched together the images, why not use Skitch or apps like Pinpoint on iOS to easily annotate or draw on them before sharing.

1. Collage for Android

Don’t go after appearances. It may seem like an app straight out of Android’s terrible Holo era (cool, now I’m going to have a Honeycomb nightmare), but it gets the job done.

Start Photo Joiner and tap Join the photo button. You will see the latest photos/screenshots here. There’s no option to quickly jump to an album, so you’ll need to scroll through your entire library.

Select the images you want. You can select up to 10 images. Clap Next.

From here, you’ll be able to decide the resolution of the photo. Slide around to zoom in or out the image.

Directly below are orientation options (to merge photos vertically or horizontally) and format. Click ALRIGHT and the app will generate the image. Then you can open it directly or put up Share menu to quickly share posts using Android’s share sheet.

2. PhotoJoiner for iPhone and iPad

PhotoJoiner for iOS is a really simple photo collage app. It works similar to their website.

After launching the app, tap Choose a photo. This will open iOS’s photo picker. The problem is that you can only select one photo at a time. Which, is stupid. But that’s a limitation perhaps thanks to an oversight. So to add more photos that you want to join, you need to tap More photos at the top left.

From the bottom, you can choose the layout you want – portrait, landscape, or grid. You can also add margins and fill colors. Once you have decided to create an image, you will be asked to wait a few seconds while viewing the ad. The photo will automatically be saved to your Camera Roll.

How about a collage then?

Well, the next step is usually collage. If you’re looking to create an epic collage, the best app, for sure, is Instagram’s own Layout app. It is also currently available for Android. Give it a shot.
