Have you ever sent a friend request on Facebook or Instagram and forgotten about it? If so, it’s possible to see all the friend requests you have sent but are yet to be accepted on Facebook and Instagram. You can then cancel or even resend them if your friend request may have been overlooked.
Reviewing your sent friend requests, you can keep tabs on pending connections, ensuring you don’t miss out on potential friendships. In this guide, we’ll show you how to check your pending friend requests on Facebook and Instagram. So, let’s start.
Check and Cancel Your Sent Friend Requests on Facebook for Desktop
The Friend Requests tab on Facebook makes it simple to keep track of all the friend requests you have sent and received. Here’s how you can access it on your computer to view your sent friend requests:
Step 1: Open a web browser and head to Facebook’s website. Log into your account if you haven’t already.
Step 2: Click on the Friends tab in the left pane.
Step 3: Click on Friend Requests.
Step 4: Click on View sent requests to see all the unconfirmed friend requests.
Step 5: In the Sent Requests window, you will see the total number of pending requests at the top. Scroll through the list and click the Cancel request button next to a user to revoke your friend request. You should see a message saying Request canceled once you do this.
Check and Cancel Your Sent Friend Requests on Facebook for Mobile
If you are using the Facebook app on your Android or iPhone, you can employ the following steps to view and cancel your sent friend requests.
Step 1: Open the Facebook app on your phone and tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
For those who have an iPhone, tap the Menu option in the bottom-right corner.
Step 2: Tap on Friends and then tap the See all button in the following menu.
Step 3: Tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner and select View sent requests.
Step 4: Scroll through the list and tap the Cancel button next to a person to revoke the friend request.
Check Your Sent Follow Requests on Instagram
Unlike Facebook, Instagram does not offer the option to view your sent follow requests within the app. To do so, you must first download your Instagram account data and then review it on a computer. Here’s how you can go about it.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your phone and switch to the profile tab. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) at the top-right corner and select Your activity.
Step 2: Scroll down to the end of the page and tap on Download your information. Then, tap on Request a download.
Step 3: Tap the ‘Select types of information’ option. Tap on Followers and following and hit Next.
Step 4: Tap the Submit request button to confirm.
After completing the above steps, you will receive an email confirming that your request is being processed. Although Instagram says it can take up to 30 days to compile your account information, we received it in an hour during our testing. So, you don’t have to wait long.
After your account report is ready, Instagram will notify you via email. After that, follow these steps to download your account data and see who you’ve requested to follow on Instagram:
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your phone. In the profile tab, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) at the top-right corner and select Your activity.
Step 2: Scroll down to tap on Download your information and select Download.
After you have downloaded the ZIP file, transfer it to a computer using your preferred method. Extract the ZIP file and double-click the ‘followers_and_following’ folder.
Double-click on the pending_follow_requests file. It can open in your default browser. Under Pending follow requests, you will see a list of users who have not yet accepted your follow request.
To cancel a friend request you sent on Instagram, you can search for the username of the person you sent the request to, and then tap the Requested button.
