How to View Hardware Information and Usage in Windows 10

There are many desktop utilities for Windows available on the Internet. Utilities dedicated to CPU usage, RAM information and Graphics memory information. We have shared earlier on how to get these desktop gadgets on Windows 10. But there are not many options available with hardware related gadgets. In addition, there are separate utilities for each hardware-related information.

Now, what if you had a simple app that stuck to your screen and showed you ALL hardware information, usage, and stats? I want to share with you a simple application for Windows that sits in the sidebar and gives you all the hardware and usage information in real time.

Sidebar Diagnostics

We have previously shared some really cool hardware monitoring software for Windows. In the list, Open Hardware Monitor is the most used hardware monitoring software. It provides in-depth insights about CPU, RAM, GPU and other hardware. Now, you can get all this information in one sidebar.

Sidebar Diagnostics provides all the necessary information about a particular piece of hardware in the sidebar view of the screen so you can quickly view them and act accordingly. I wouldn’t call it a desktop gadget but it can be used as one. It’s open source and completely free. It works fluently on Windows 10. You need .NET framework 4.5.2 or higher. Links to download are provided in the above link itself.

2 . sidebar diagnostics

As you can see in the screenshot above, it is placed on the right side of the screen. You can choose which side you want. Let’s first see what it shows right after you install it.

Hardware information is displayed

Starting with the CPU, it shows the temperature and clock speed along with the total load on the CPU and specific cores. It would be nice if it could show the temperature of specific cores as available in Open Hardware Monitor. Not much information is available in the RAM section. Then there’s the GPU display with full information.

When you scroll down, you can see information about all drives and Networks. You can further customize this sidebar by clicking the settings icon at the top or choosing an option from the system tray icon.

Customize and Install

You can customize the look of the sidebar. It can be displayed on the left or right side of the screen, change the background color, font color and also adjust the width. If you have 2 or more monitors, you have settings for that as well.

With the help of horizontal and vertical offsets, you can place the sidebar where you want on the screen. Yes, widgets cannot move freely. It would be a great feature to add.

A great add-on to this software are hotkeys. With the help of hotkeys you can quickly toggle to show/hide the sidebar. In addition, you have a hotkey to switch the sidebar between multiple screens.

If you want a graphical representation of some hardware metrics then you have it too. You can access the chart from the system tray icon options or from the top of the sidebar. It displays a graph of a specific metric for the period set by you.

It’s one of its kind

It is the only widget-style hardware monitoring software available for Windows 10 that provides enough information for the average PC user. In the future, I’d like to see a sidebar that’s movable and possibly more hardware information on the screen.
