To quickly summarize the feature, Samples is like the YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels feed on the YouTube Music app. While this might sound annoying to some users, Samples will help you get a 30-second glimpse of new music tracks. Most music streaming services recommend new music by showing just the Album Art. But Samples on YouTube Music goes beyond that and lets you listen to a new song before you add it to your library.
How to Use Samples on YouTube Music on iPhone and Android
As of writing this post, Samples is slowly rolling out for users across the globe. Keep the app updated on your iPhone or Android phone. Here’s how to use it in the app.
Step 1: Open the YouTube Music app on your iPhone or Android phone.
Step 2: Tap the Samples tab at the bottom.
Step 3: Select Try Now on the splash screen.
You will now see your Samples feed that will suggest new music based on your previous listening history. Just like on TikTok and Instagram Reels, you will see verticle music videos of 30 seconds, which you can keep swiping up to watch new videos.
On the left side of the Samples music video, you will see the options to Like, Share, and Play the full music video in the YouTube Music app.
How to Add Samples to YouTube Music Playlist on iPhone and Android
Like how you save your Instagram Reels to view them later, you can save your YouTube Music Samples in a playlist on your iPhone and Android phone. Here’s how.
Step 1: Open YouTube Music on your iPhone or Android phone.
Step 2: Tap the Samples tab at the bottom.
Step 3: Tap on Like to add the Samples video to the Liked Playlist.
Tap the Add icon on the left side to add the Samples video to a new playlist.
To access your Liked Samples, just tap on Library at the bottom and select Your Likes. You can also access your other playlist where you have added your Samples video.
Samples Not Working in YouTube Music App
In case you don’t see the Samples tab in the YouTube Music app on your iPhone or Android phone, here are some fixes to solve this issue.
1. Force Quit and Restart YouTube Music App
This will give a fresh start to the YouTube Music app on your iPhone and Android phone.
On Android
Step 1: Long-press the YouTube Music app on your Android phone and select App Info.
Step 2: Tap on Force Stop and select Ok.
Step 3: Close App Info and open YouTube Music again to check if the problem is solved.
On iPhone
Step 1: On the home screen, swipe up and hold to reveal the background app windows.
Step 2: Swipe right to look for the YouTube Music app and swipe up to remove the app.
Step 3: Relaunch YouTube Music and check if the problem is solved.
2. Switch From Mobile Data to Wi-Fi
You can switch from Mobile Data to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or Android phone if Samples don’t work in YouTube Music. It is possible that you are not getting good internet speeds with mobile data in your current location.
3. Enable Music Video Playback
If you can’t watch the music videos in the Samples tab, you should check if music video playback is enabled for the app.
Step 1: Open YouTube Music on your iPhone or Android phone.
Step 2: Tap the profile icon at the top-right corner and select Settings.
Step 3: Select Playback Restrictions and ensure that the option of Don’t Play Music Videos is disabled.
