Every time Facebook launches a new feature on its platform, you’ll get a notification. Also, you’ll see the new feature has a blinking red dot on it, almost begging for your attention. I’m not sure about others, but sometimes I find it annoying that notifications don’t go away quickly.
Now the social network introduces Facebook Watch internationally. I like Facebook so much but I don’t think I can spend too much time watching videos on it. If you have also been turned off by the Facebook Watch notification and want to get rid of it, today I will help you with that. Here I will share how to turn off Facebook Watch notifications on mobile and desktop applications.
But before that, find out what Facebook Watch is about.
What is Facebook Watch?
You must have noticed over the past few years, video creation and consumption has skyrocketed a lot. From YouTube to Netflix to Amazon Prime, the number of streaming services has also increased. If video content is gaining popularity, why should Facebook stay behind?
Join Facebook Watch, a streaming service offered by Facebook specifically for its users. It was launched last year in the US first and was introduced globally in September of this year. Facebook Watch is a dedicated place for Facebook users to watch videos. You get all the traditional features of Facebook to Watch videos like like, comment, share, tag, etc.
Besides the original shows produced by Facebook, the platform offers all the videos uploaded by its users on the platform. You can access Facebook Watch from a dedicated tab found in the top bar of the mobile app. On the Facebook web, it’s available in the left sidebar. When you save a video on Facebook, it’s also available in Facebook Watch.
Why is it not working?
Although Facebook has invested a lot of money in it, very few people know about this feature. Mainly because Facebook doesn’t market it outside of the US and has to send unsolicited notifications. Also, it’s strange that even though now when you watch any video on Facebook, it’s available in the Watch platform, but no one knows that it exists.
Do not believe me? Watch any video on Facebook app, it will take you to Facebook Watch.
Turn off notifications on the watch
Whether you already have enough notifications or just want to get rid of those red counters, you can completely turn them off for the Watch. Here’s how you can do it.
Mobile application
Step 1: Open the app and tap the Clock icon in the top bar to go to the Clock screen.
If it’s not available there, tap the three-bar icon in the top right corner and select View from there.
Step 2: In the View tab, tap View All, then Manage.
Step 3: You will be taken to the Manage your Watchlist page. Here, tap the notification icon next to the page or display the notification that you want to turn off.
To remove it from your watchlist so you don’t even see their videos in this tab, tap the crosshair icon and select Remove from watchlist.
Sadly, there is no way to do it in bulk. You will have to turn off notifications for all individual pages.
Website
Step 1: Open the Facebook website in a web browser and click the View option in the left sidebar. Alternatively, you can go directly to the Facebook Watch page.
Step 2: Click the Gear-shaped Settings icon next to the Following heading in the left sidebar. You will be taken to the Manage Watchlist screen. Click the Update button to turn off notifications from that page or display.
You can also click on the page or display it directly from the left sidebar. Then click the Notification button to turn off the notification.
Extra tip: Clear watch history on Facebook
Like any other platform, Facebook keeps track of all the videos you’ve watched on it. Although the history is not public, it is linked to your account. In case you want to remove it, here are the steps.
Mobile application
Step 1: Open the Facebook app and tap the three-bar hamburger menu in the upper right corner. Then scroll down and tap on Settings & Privacy.
Step 2: Tap Settings. Scroll down and tap Activity Log.
Step 3: From the Category drop-down box at the top, select Videos You’ve Watched.
Step 4: Tap Delete at the top below Videos you’ve watched to clear the history.
Website
Step 1: Open the Facebook website and click on the small down arrow in the upper right corner. Select Activity Log from it.
Step 2: From the left sidebar, click Add and select Videos you’ve watched from the list.
Step 3: Click on Clear video watch history at the top to clear the history.
You can also click the Edit icon next to each video and select Remove from that video.
What’s next?
Facebook is trying different ways to attract people to its Watch Platform. They also recently launched Watch Party where users can host live sessions for previously uploaded videos on Facebook. Despite Facebook’s various efforts to bring users to its Watch platform, it hasn’t received much attention for a variety of reasons.
While the social network is also working on releasing original content on Facebook Watch, we hope to see engaging and interesting videos. That said, Facebook needs to catch up a lot to compete with YouTube.
