How to Turn off Watch Notifications on Facebook

Every time Facebook launches a new feature on its platform, you’ll get a notification. Also, you’ll see the new feature has a blinking red dot on it, almost begging for your attention. I’m not sure about others, but sometimes I find it annoying that notifications don’t go away quickly.

Now the social network introduces Facebook Watch internationally. I like Facebook so much but I don’t think I can spend too much time watching videos on it. If you have also been turned off by the Facebook Watch notification and want to get rid of it, today I will help you with that. Here I will share how to turn off Facebook Watch notifications on mobile and desktop applications.

But before that, find out what Facebook Watch is about.

What is Facebook Watch?

You must have noticed over the past few years, video creation and consumption has skyrocketed a lot. From YouTube to Netflix to Amazon Prime, the number of streaming services has also increased. If video content is gaining popularity, why should Facebook stay behind?

Join Facebook Watch, a streaming service offered by Facebook specifically for its users. It was launched last year in the US first and was introduced globally in September of this year. Facebook Watch is a dedicated place for Facebook users to watch videos. You get all the traditional features of Facebook to Watch videos like like, comment, share, tag, etc.

Besides the original shows produced by Facebook, the platform offers all the videos uploaded by its users on the platform. You can access Facebook Watch from a dedicated tab found in the top bar of the mobile app. On the Facebook web, it’s available in the left sidebar. When you save a video on Facebook, it’s also available in Facebook Watch.

Why is it not working?

Although Facebook has invested a lot of money in it, very few people know about this feature. Mainly because Facebook doesn’t market it outside of the US and has to send unsolicited notifications. Also, it’s strange that even though now when you watch any video on Facebook, it’s available in the Watch platform, but no one knows that it exists.

What’s next?

Facebook is trying different ways to attract people to its Watch Platform. They also recently launched Watch Party where users can host live sessions for previously uploaded videos on Facebook. Despite Facebook’s various efforts to bring users to its Watch platform, it hasn’t received much attention for a variety of reasons.

While the social network is also working on releasing original content on Facebook Watch, we hope to see engaging and interesting videos. That said, Facebook needs to catch up a lot to compete with YouTube.
