Classic shell is an all-in-one application that enhances Windows native features like Explorer, IE, and the Start Menu. We’ll be using it to bring back Windows 7 (and even the classic XP-style menu) in Windows 8.1.
Step 1: Download the app.
Step 2: Start with the normal process. Fight Next until you see the screen below.
Step 3: Now, from here click on classic explorer And Classic IE options and choose X marked, it will ignore the features that we do not need to install the Start Menu.
Step 4: The rest of the process is very simple that anyone can follow without any instructions. Exit the wizard once the installation is complete.
Classic Shell Setup
One simple command – press Windows key – and the Classic Shell startup guide will appear. From here, choose the type of menu you want – Classic, Classic with two columns, or Windows 7 style. You can also substitute Begin button if you want. From Basic settings menu, you can specify the behavior for left and right clicks as the Windows key on your keyboard.

At the Build 2014 conference, Microsoft announced that it was bringing the classic Start menu that integrates tiles directly back into Windows. at some point, but as I mentioned earlier, they haven’t released any ETA.

Substitute – Spencer
Spencer is a lightweight utility that mimics the Windows XP Start menu in a single column. All your apps are listed in vertical order, even system preferences and power management.
After downloading Spencer, extract it to a location you can remember. Now go to the folder, right click and select Pin to taskbar. That’s it. Spencer is now up and running as your Start menu replacement.
This app doesn’t have many features, and since it shows all apps in a list format, it won’t be of much use if you have multiple apps installed. That said, it’s very fast to use.
