Disable Dark Mode in Microsoft Office Apps on Windows
There are two methods to do so. While one mode removes dark mode or the black theme from all connected PCs where you have signed in to your Microsoft account, the second only changes it on the current system. in. However, in both methods, dark mode will be disabled on all Microsoft Office applications. Which means you can’t keep dark mode in Word and turn it off in Excel. It will turn off in all Office applications.

1. Turn off Dark Mode on all computers
When you use this method to disable the black theme, it will reflect on all devices where your Microsoft account is signed in. For example, if you are using Word on two Windows PCs and you disable the black theme on one PC by following the steps, it will automatically change on the second PC as well.

Step 1: Open any Microsoft Office application like Word, Excel, etc.
Step 2: If you created a new file, click Existing Account in the left pane.
If you already have an existing file open, click File at the top. Scroll down and click Accounts.
Step 3: Click on the drop-down box included in Office Themes. Choose Classic or Colorful to remove dark mode from all Office apps on your Windows PC.
2. Turn off Dark Mode on a PC
If you only want to change the black theme on your PC, i.e. not on all the PCs where your Microsoft Office account is synced, there is an option to do that as well. Let’s check out how to do it.
Step 1: Launch any Microsoft Office application on your system. Let’s say Word.
Step 2: Click File at the top and select Options from it.
Step 3: Scroll down in the General tab. Click the drop-down box next to Office Theme. Choose Classic or Colorful. Click Ok at the bottom to save the changes.

You also have two methods to disable the dark or black theme in macOS.
1. Turn off Dark Mode on all Office apps
If you’re using Office 365 or 2019 and have set your macOS to dark mode, the same applies to Microsoft Office apps. So you can disable the system dark theme to remove it from Office apps like Word, Excel, etc. Again, dark mode will be removed from all Office apps not just one. .

Step 1: Click on the Apple menu at the top and select System Preferences from there.
Step 2: Click on General.
Step 3: If Dark is selected, click Light to enable it. That way, dark mode will be disabled for Office apps, including other supported apps on your Mac.

2. Turn off Dark Mode on individual Office apps
The above method will disable the dark theme on all Office applications. In case you only want to change it on one app then use this method.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Open the Office application for which you want to disable the dark theme. For example, we want to turn it off on Word.
Then open Word and click on the Word menu at the top and choose Preferences from there.
Step 2: Go to the General tab.
Step 3: Find the Personalization section. Check the box next to Turn Off Dark Mode.
That will disable the dark theme on Word. Now, if you want to disable it on PowerPoint or Excel, you will have to repeat the above steps in their application.
