When you delete a photo from your iPhone or iPad, it is permanently deleted or at least hidden in the Recently Deleted folder. But the opposite is happening. Photos immediately come back because deleting photos doesn’t delete them permanently.
Let’s see different ways to prevent old photos from reappearing on your iPhone.
Does turning off iCloud fix the problem
Many people think that iCloud is responsible for recovering deleted photos. So disabling iCloud will fix the problem as it will stop syncing continuously. But that is far from the truth.
iCloud doesn’t have anything to do with it. To understand better, you need to know what happens when you delete photos from iPhone. While we covered this in detail on our dedicated post (you should read it), we’ll tell you the gist here.
The outcome of deleting photos depends on two things – whether iCloud is enabled or not. In case it turns off, the photo will just be deleted from your phone. But if it is enabled, they will be removed from all your Apple devices with the same Apple account. So there is no problem about restoring them using iCloud.
However, many other things can be responsible and similar solutions are mentioned below. However, like any online tool, errors can appear at any time. So, after following the solutions mentioned below, you can try to disable iCloud. Read what happens when you turn off iCloud on your iPhone.

1. Restart the phone
Sometimes the solution is as easy as restarting the phone. That should be your first step to fixing the problem of deleted photos that keep coming back. So power off your phone and then turn it back on.
2. Turn off Photo Stream
Photo Stream on iOS is different from your iCloud library. If your deleted photos come back, you should turn off Photo Stream. To do so, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad. Tap your name at the top.
Step 2: Tap iCloud, then Photos.
Step 3: Turn off the switch next to Photo Stream.
3. Empty the recently deleted folder
When you delete photos on your iPhone or iPad, they are not permanently deleted. They don’t appear on your phone in the Recently Deleted folder for 30 days. You can either delete them permanently from the Recently Deleted folder manually or wait for 30 days, then they will disappear automatically.
Normally, this will not be responsible for the returned photos. However, sometimes it’s a bug and removing it won’t hurt. It will only solve the problem.
To empty the Recently Deleted folder, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Apple Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 2: Tap Albums at the bottom. Scroll down and tap Recently Deleted.
Step 3: Click Select at the top. Then select all photos and tap Delete.

4. Test third-party apps
Most of the time, the problem is really with a third-party app and we blame the Photos app. You should check the photos that are reappearing. If they come from a specific app, uninstall that app from your phone and then reinstall it.
Many iOS users have pointed out that it is largely due to Instagram’s fault. So uninstall it. That won’t delete your Instagram account or any photos posted on it.
5. Check iTunes
In case you are trying to delete added photos from iTunes, they will not be deleted. You need to connect your phone to your computer through iTunes. Then, uncheck the photos and they will automatically be deleted from your phone.
6. Check Google Photos
If you use other photo storage services like Google Photos, they can also cause this problem. That’s because they work differently than iCloud.

We have two solutions for Google Photos.
Similar to iCloud, things are different when deleting photos in the Google Photos app. Once your photos are synced to Google Photos, you’ll see two delete buttons in the Google Photos app. The first is the normal delete icon that appears when you open the photo. Tapping it will remove the photo from your phone and Google account. You should use this if you want to delete your photos permanently.
Second, if you swipe up a photo in the Google Photos app, you’ll see an option to Remove from Device. Using this will only delete photos from your phone. Since it will remain on your Google Photos account, it will continue to show up in the Google Photos app.
Uninstall the Google Photos app
Google Photos also comes with a recently deleted folder of its own. It’s called Trash or Trash. You’ll find it under the three-bar icon. First, empty the trash and see if the deleted photos stop appearing.
If the problem persists, uninstall Google Photos for a while. Before doing that, know what to expect by uninstalling Google Photos. Then reinstall.
