How to Install Remix OS on Virtual Box on Any Computer

Jide’s Remix OS has gained a lot of hype over the past two months. Its Remix Mini was a hit on Kickstarter and was also shown off at CES 2016. Remix OS delivered a desktop-style Android experience. It can be easily tried out by booting via USB and can also be dual-booted with your current operating system. Dual booting can be a tedious task, and to boot from a flash drive you need at least 32 GB of free space. Well, if none of that works for you then you can install it on a Virtual Machine and run it that way whenever you want.

We will be using Virtual Box as the VM software. I installed it here on my Windows 10 PC. Virtual Box is available on most platforms, by the way. Therefore, this guide can also be applied to Mac and Linux OS’. So let’s see how to install Remix OS on Virtual Box. Before that, please read the prerequisites below.

Prerequisites

You must have Virtual Box installed. Alternatively, download Remix OS from Jide’s website if you haven’t already. There are two options available- Legacy and EFI. Download Heritage document. Torrent links are highly recommended. When downloading directly, the server may not respond. Now, some minimum requirements to run Remix OS on Virtual Box.

You must have at least 4 GB of RAM to be able to allocate at least 1 GB of RAM to Remix OS. The higher the RAM, the better it will perform. Here I used 2 GB RAM out of 8 GB. 16 GB of storage is required for the virtual hard drive. Most Important – At least a dual core processor. (Well, most systems these days have dual cores or higher). Higher processing speed, better performance. Also, if your processor supports hyperthreading then you will run this operating system smoothly.

Not enough space in your system partition? You may want to extend it. Here is a quick guide to easily extend the system partition on Windows 10.

Now, extract the files from the Remix OS zip file you downloaded. we don’t need remix-usb-tool.exe. Only ISO files will be used here. Now start the virtual machine. Right click and select WILLtart -> Normal start.

Start Remix Vm

The virtual machine will start. Now, you will get a dialog to select the ISO file. Browse and select the ISO file. And click Begin.
