How to Show Google Calendar In Windows Live Mail Calendar

Windows Vista has a Windows Calendar that is somehow not included with Windows 7. If you missed this Vista tool after upgrading to Windows 7 and want to manage your calendar and events on the desktop, you can install the free Windows Live Mail (WLM) email client that comes with the Windows Live Essentials suite and has a built-in calendar. Additional advantages and features will follow.

However, it lacks the subscription feature that Windows Calendar has, and I don’t see a direct way to sync other calendars like Google Calendar with it. However, if you signed up with a Live/Hotmail ID then you will be happy to know that there is a way to do the same.

Steps to sync Google Calendar with Windows Live Mail Calendar

Before proceeding, you should ensure that you have a Live/Hotmail account, installed WLM and the connection associated between them.

Step 1: Sign in to your Google account and follow the instructions Calendar navigation. On the left pane, tap the drop-down arrow for the calendar you want to share and navigate to Calendar settings.

Share Google Calendar

Step 2: Scroll to the bottom of the page where you will find the Private Address section. Right click on ICAL and copy the link location.

Step 3: Log in to your Hotmail/Live account and access Calendar feature.

Step 5: Paste the Calendar URL you copied in Step 2. This URL will remain in your clipboard if you haven’t redirected from this article. Also give it a name and choose a color theme and/or choose a Charm.

Step 6: (Optional) Your Google Calendar is now synced with your Hotmail/Live calendar. You can find it in the left pane of the Calendar Home page. This step is optional just in case you might want to verify your calendar addition.

Step 7: Open WLM on your desktop and wait for an automatic update session or refresh everything immediately. Below Send and receive take the option to say All calendars. Make sure you’re connected to your Hotmail/Live account.

Step 8: Your calendar is now visible in WLM. Find your calendar among others in the left pane. The image below shows the event on the Google calendar on the 23rd (distinct by color).

Conclusion

If you are looking for a direct way to do so from WLM, let me tell you there is no way. I wish it came with a subscription option and hope to see one in the future. Until then this is the best I can think of. Know any other way?
