Step 7: Once you tap the Sound icon, tap the Microphone icon to start recording your voice message. Then, touch the Stop button (red square) to stop recording.
Step 8: Click the Play button if you want to listen to the recorded message again before sending. If you like it, tap the Send icon next to the input area. Or, tap the X icon in the input area to cancel the recording.
Method 2: Long press to record
Use this method if you want to send voice notes quickly.
Step 1: First, follow steps 1-4 of the above method. That is, tap the Audio app icon in the iMessage app bar.
Step 2: Then, touch and hold the Microphone icon to start recording. Continue holding while recording the note. When done, just lift your finger to send a voice message.
Step 3: In case you decide not to send a voice message while recording, pull your finger away from the microphone in any direction. Then, ring the bell to cancel the recording. Unfortunately, you cannot play back the recording before sending it by this method.

How to change the position of the audio message icon
If the Sound icon appears far away in the icon list, you can move it to the front. For that, tap the three-dot icon again at the bottom of the icon list. Then tap Edit at the top.
Now tap the green icon (+) next to Audio Messages to add it to Favorites. Then, touch and hold the three-bar icon next to Audio Messages and drag it to the top. Tap Done, then Done again. The Audio Messages icon will now show up at the top of the app icons, making it easy to access.
How to send audio messages in iOS 15 on iPhone
Step 1: Open the chat thread in iMessage to which you want to send voice notes.
Step 2: Touch and hold the Sound (wave) icon next to the input area to start recording the message. Keep holding until you want to record a voice note.
