You may have noticed that you can’t save animated GIFs on Twitter the same way you can save them on any other website. Mostly, all you need to do is right-click on the image and save it. But on Twitter, there is no option to save image in the right-click menu. This is because Twitter actually converts all animated GIFs into short video files to increase load times. The downside is that you cannot directly save these “GIFs” as images.

Well, we have several different solution options for you to explore if you really want to save the GIF because it should be… GIF. It won’t be as easy as right clicking, but you can still have your GIF in just a few steps.
Option 1: Download Tweet2gif for Android
Android users, you’re in luck. Turns out the Google Play store has a free and very nifty app that allows you to completely bypass the advanced method of downloading GIFs.
The app is called Tweet2gif and as you can imagine, it allows you to automatically download any animated GIF from any public tweet. All you have to do is access the tweet you want to save the GIF from from your Twitter app. Tap a tweet to expand details, then tap Than menu and select Copy link to tweet.
Go to Tweet2gif on your Android phone and paste in the link. From here, you can choose to download it as a GIF file or optionally as an MP4 movie file. The rest is history.
Option 2: Download MP4, then convert
If you are using another platform and can’t download Tweet2gif, then you have some work to do to get your GIF. (Don’t worry, it still won’t take long.) The first thing you need to do is download the GIF’s MP4 video file on Twitter. Then convert that MP4 file to a GIF file. Let’s run through both.
Tip:
An easy way to download GIFs from Twitter as a video is to visit saveeo.com. Like Tweet2gif, all you have to do here is paste the URL of the tweet you’re using. So take it, paste and click Download. On the new page, click the smaller icon Download right link. Since GIFs are rarely longer than a few seconds, MP4 will complete the download almost instantly.
Note: Depending on the browser you use, you may need to right-click or right-click the . icon Download link and select Download the linked file or Save the link as…
Now, time to convert. Go to ezgif.com and click Video to GIF in the menu. Browse for your saved MP4 file and upload it.
You can play around with a bunch of different options, but if you want to jump straight to the download, skip that section. The only thing I would recommend is changing the frame rate (FPS) to 20 seconds for smoother animations. Finally, click Convert to GIF!
The animated GIF appears below, and at the end you can do what you wanted to do in the first place: right click and save. That’s not too tedious, is it?
Option 3: Save as screen recording
Have you seen our guide to save animated GIFs by recording animations directly on your screen? If you time it right, this will work perfectly for saving Twitter repeat animations as your own.
