How to Remember Passwords Using LastPass From Your USB Pen Drive

If anyone randomly asked me a question about what, if I think about it, could give me goosebumps at any moment, I’m sure my answer would be “fear of being hacked”. Seriously, I consider each of my logins a valuable asset.. and so should you.

To protect all my passwords and make my online life a little easier, I use LastPass, the best online password manager. It’s amazing, rich in features and can be used perfectly across different browsers and operating systems.

LastPass also allows people who work on public computers and internet cafes to access their archives online, but there is always the risk of all those keyloggers running in the background (I should say in some of those cafes), waiting for you to make a mistake. If you’re working on multiple computers and want to integrate LastPass into your online life, here are the two safest methods.

1. Using LastPass Portable

The best way to access LastPass’s password vault is through its browser plugin. Not only does it provide access to the vault, but it also autofills your credentials for you. One can fill out lengthy registration forms in a jiffy with LastPass for the browser. And on a public computer, you can easily install it on a portable browser that you can run for your USB drive.

Before using LastPass mobile, make sure you have either a mobile browser, Chrome or Firefox, on your pen drive. If you don’t know how to use portable apps, please read our guide on PortableApps.com before continuing.

You can install LastPass portable in one of the following ways.

Method 1: Open a mobile browser directly from your pen drive and install the corresponding LastPass plugin online. The plugin will be installed on your own pen drive, and from next time, whenever you work on a public computer, you can use your mobile browser with LastPass integration.

Last Chrome

Method 2: If you don’t have access to your pen drive at the moment, you can download the plugin file for the browser and integrate it with your pen drive mobile browser whenever you have access to it.

Mobile Lastpass

To integrate the plugin manually, right-click on the plugin file and open it with the respective mobile browser, Firefox or Chrome.

Open with

Then the browser will install the plugin and then you can work with it normally as a daily browser plugin.

Install the extension

2. Use the LastPass Pocket

If all you need is data stored in your vault like credit card numbers, bank account details and, above all, passwords, then LastPass Pocket solves that purpose too. This is a simple application that allows you to access your vault from a portable .exe file. Using LastPass Pocket, you can access your vault even when you’re not connected to the internet.

My judgment

Both of the above methods solve the purpose but I prefer the former over the latter. LastPass is pocket-sized when one doesn’t have an internet connection on the go but otherwise it’s less functional when compared to mobile LastPass in every respect. LastPass Portable is the best way to get access to your vault from internet cafes and any other computer you can’t trust.
