Previously, we have seen how you can

hide private photos and videos on android

. I’m sure many Android users have started storing their personal media on their phones without fear of someone finding out after reading that article of ours.

Without a doubt, photos and videos are important and should be kept secure but so are text messages, especially those that you don’t want to accidentally reveal to others. I have a few crazy friends who never text me for some reason, I still love reading them and laughing. I usually delete them after reading so that no one accidentally or intentionally comes across them and jumps to the wrong conclusion.

The above are just one of the situations where one might want to protect SMS/text messages with a password. People may have different reasons for keeping them locked. So today we will see how to secure text messages on Android with a password.

We will be using Go SMS Pro for this task. While there are many Android apps available on the Play Store that claim to secure text messages, after trying out a few of them, Go SMS seems to be the winner for me.

Secure SMS with GO SMS

Step 1: Download and install Go SMS Pro from Google Play Store. After configuring the app on first use, you’ll be able to access all your existing message threads in your Go SMS inbox.

Step 2: Before we start using the privacy box on Go SMS Pro, we will need to configure it. Open the application menu and navigate to the Services tab. Here, select Private Box to get started.

Step 3: Go SMS will now ask you to set up your own box and provide the password that will be used to encrypt the message. Having done that, you’ll be taken to your own box.

Step 4: All you need to do now is add the contacts to the private box. SMS/MMS from all contacts that you will encrypt and add to the private box will remain hidden from the regular inbox. These encrypted messages will also be hidden from other apps that have permission to read your messages.

Now you can exit the app to lock your privacy box. From now on, whenever you receive an SMS from a secured contact, you will receive a private contact notification alert. Clicking on it will open the SMS provided you enter the correct password.

You can also see all the messages in the private box from Menu—>Services—>Privacy Box. To change the settings, tap the Settings button at the top right in the privacy box. While it is possible to change the lock type of the privacy box from automatic to manual, I recommend using automatic mode for maximum security.

If you want to modify your own box encryption password, you can also do that from the settings menu. To make a message public again, touch and hold the contact thread in the private box and select Move out of privacy box.

Conclusion

To conclude, all I want to say is that if you want to hide your Android SMS from the prying eyes of those around you, the Go SMS private box is one of the safest methods to do it. What do you think?
