How to Never Exceed Your iPhone Data Plan With This App

Most of us who use data connections like 3G or LTE on our devices have a dedicated plan. These plans are very cheap when compared to the price one has to pay per KB or MB of data if using no plan. And you can know that your carrier is always eagerly waiting for you to exceed your usage, because then they can start charging you exorbitant rates per KB or MB . So the idea is to know when you are hitting that limit.

We’ve seen an app called DataWiz for this task that still works great, but today we’re going to use another promising app called My Data Manager, which not only helps you make postpaid billing cycles but also works with prepaid data plans.

Let’s see how we can configure the app so that we never go over our data plan and thus never pay huge bills.

My Data Manager for iPhone

My Data Manager can be downloaded for free from the app store and it is currently free software without any ads. After you have installed the application, it will ask you to set a monthly data limit to which you are entitled. Select the type of plan you are using and the monthly renewal date. Once that’s done, set your maximum data limit and save the settings. If you’ve passed some days in your current billing cycle, enter the approximate data you may have used up to the day before saving the settings.

The app will now run in the background and track all your incoming and outgoing data on the device (Cellular/Wi-Fi/Roaming) and give you detailed statistics right on the dashboard application control.

The app will also forecast your approximate usage if you continue with the current trend. If you have a specific roaming plan, you can also configure it in the app control panel.

The app will automatically sound an alarm when you’re about to exceed your data limit, but you can also set three custom alarms to remind you midway.

On the data card, touch the settings button and select Change alarm. Here, set a data limit for each of the three alarms you want to trigger and save the settings. Personally, I like this particular setting because it helps you know when you’re half or three quarters over your data plan so you can minimize your run time that month.

Additional alarms

The Data Manager graphically displays your data usage for you to analyze it hourly, daily and monthly. The graph will show your data for mobile, Wi-Fi, and roaming in the same table, but you can selectively analyze the data by tapping and disabling them.

You can also view the locations where you’ve used your data connection and Wi-Fi connection on a map and set a timer to monitor data rates.

Conclusion

So that’s pretty much everything there is to know about Data Manager for iPhone. The app works great, and the extra alarm feature ensures you never go over your limit even if you’re in the middle of the month. The only thing I don’t like is the pale color scheme of the app. But that’s just a personal choice.
