Luckily, those apps took care of the little details in their apps. While having so many people use it is absolutely wonderful, it can get overwhelming. Thankfully, the majority of these apps offer a mute option.
Without the mute option, conducting virtual meetings and webinars wouldn’t be an easy task. Imagine random voices and sounds coming from everyone’s microphone at the same time. It will be a mess. Of course, you can use the Zoom shortcut for the official app on Windows and Mac. However, it’s a bit tricky on mobile.
Fortunately, however, you can mute and unmute people in Zoom calls on your Android and iPhone. In this post, we will tell you how to mute yourself on Zoom and others from mobile phones.

How to mute the pre-meeting zoom from your phone
If you want to mute your sound in the first place, Zoom offers an option for that. Tap the Join option in the Zoom app to join the meeting on your mobile device. Then turn on the switch next to ‘Do not connect to audio’. That will mute your audio before you start the meeting.
How to unmute when zooming before a meeting from your phone
To enable audio before you join the meeting, turn off the ‘Do not connect to audio’ option before you join the call.
How to always mute zoom for meetings from your phone
In the above method, you need to click on the option to turn off the sound every time you join the meeting. What if every meeting you join is automatically muted? Check out the steps below to achieve the same thing.
Step 1: Launch the Zoom app on your Android or iPhone.
Step 2: Tap the Settings option in the bottom right corner. Tap Meetings inside Settings.

How to always unmute when zooming for meetings from your phone
You can always turn on audio on Zoom whenever you start a meeting from your phone. For that, you will need to follow these steps.
Step 1: Launch the Zoom app on your Android or iPhone.
Step 2: Tap the Settings option in the bottom right corner. Tap Meetings inside Settings.
Step 3: Turn off the switch next to ‘Always mute my microphone’ to unmute Zoom.
How to mute and unmute yourself during phone zoom calls
Zoom has made it easy to mute and unmute in meetings. For that, tap your screen to bring up the available options. Then tap Mute to mute your sound and the microphone icon will turn red in the Zoom window. To unmute, tap the red Unmute Microphone icon to unmute the sound again.
How to mute and unmute others when calling Zoom
There are two ways to approach that – mute all participants and mute speakers.
1. How to mute all participants in a zoom call
If you are the organizer of the Zoom meeting, you have the right to mute and unmute participants while on a call. You can mute all participants or manually select the specific participants you want to mute.
To do so, follow these steps on the Zoom app for Android and iPhone:
Step 1: Launch the Zoom app and create a meeting.
Step 2: Click the Participants tab at the bottom. You will be taken to a list of participants.
Step 3: Tap Mute all at the bottom and the app will mute everyone. In case you want to unmute everyone, tap on Unmute all. Confirm on the next screen.
If you don’t want specific participants to unmute themselves, uncheck the ‘Allow participants to unmute themselves’ option. Only then can you unmute the participants and they cannot do it themselves.
In case a particular participant accidentally mutes and you unmute them. Participants will receive a notification that the organizer wants to unmute them. Only if they give permission will they be muted.
Also, if you want to mute new participants at the beginning of the meeting, here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: Tap the three-dot icon at the bottom of the meeting screen.
Step 2: Tap Meeting Settings from the pop-up menu.
Step 3: Turn on the switch next to ‘Mute on entry’.
You can also set participants to request your (server’s) permission to unmute themselves during a Zoom call. Follow Zoom’s support instructions to enable pre-approved consent from account settings to allow participants to unmute themselves during the meeting. You can force this setting by applying a Lock after making those changes from account settings.
2. How to mute specific participants when zooming from phone
If you are a meeting participant, you do not have permission to mute others. However, if you are the organizer, you can mute a specific participant from the phone. Here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: Tap Participants at the bottom of the Zoom window.
Step 2: When the participant list opens, tap the participant you want to mute. From the option that opens, select Mute Sound.
To use this feature, tap the speaker icon present in the top left corner in a Zoom meeting. To turn it off, tap it again.
Troubleshooting: Zoom sound not working on Android and iPhone
If you can’t hear the other person or if the other person can’t hear you, follow these troubleshooting tips to resolve the issue.
Restart the phone
To get started, restart your phone and then rejoin the Zoom meeting.
Turn on volume
If you cannot hear others, make sure the speakers are turned on, as shown above. You should also increase the volume of your phone.
Auto unmute
Sometimes, we inadvertently mute ourselves. So tap the screen and press the Unmute button. If you can’t mute yourself, the server may have muted you. Text them to unmute you.
Allow zoom to access your videos
To do that, tap the Join Audio option at the bottom of the meeting screen. Then let Zoom access your audio. On iPhone, you may receive a notification requesting access to your device’s audio when you join a meeting.
Microphone permission
To do that on Android, go to your phone’s Settings > Apps. Tap Zoom followed by Permissions. Grant Microphone permissions.

On iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Enable toggle for Zoom.
Note: You should also check if any other apps are using your microphone.
Uninstall the Zoom app
If the problem persists, try reinstalling the Zoom app. To do that, first uninstall Zoom from your phone. Then reinstall.
Go on a Spree Mute
