Sometimes, you accidentally add photos to the wrong Google account or you simply want to move them to another Google Photos account. In such cases, you need to move photos from one Google Photos account to another. So here we will tell you how to transfer photos between two Google Photos accounts.
A typical way to do that is to download all your images and videos from your first Google Photos account, then upload them to your second Google Photos account. In case you do not want to select photos, you can ask for the help of Google Takeout. To do that, visit the Google Takeout website and download your entire Google Photos library from there. It will be available as a ZIP file. Extract it and then upload photos and videos normally in your second account.
Both methods require you to download and upload photos. It is a long process. To avoid that, you can follow the other two methods mentioned in this post about moving Google Photos between accounts.
Note
1. Add a partner account
Google Photos offers many ways to share images. It has a really cool feature where you can share all your backed up photos with your partner. You can customize sharing and share from a selected date or just by a certain person. We will use the help of this feature to move Google Photos between two accounts.
Here are the detailed steps.
Step 1. Send the invitation from the first phone
The process begins by sending an invitation to join as a partner account. To do that, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Google Photos app. Switch to the account to which you want to transfer files by tapping the profile picture icon at the top.
Tip:
Step 2: Tap the three-bar icon at the top and select Settings.
Step 3: Tap Shared library. Then tap Get Started.
Step 4: Enter the name or email address of the second account you want to transfer Google Photos to.
Step 5: As mentioned earlier, you can select all photos, photos of selected people or from a certain date. In this step, you need to choose the appropriate option for the same. Since you must move all photos, select All photos. Confirm your choice on the next screen and tap Send Invitation.
Note
Step 2. Accept the invitation
You will receive a notification on your second account. Tap the notification. The interface will ask you to accept the invitation. Tap Accept.
In case you are logged into both accounts on the same phone, tap the profile picture icon at the top and switch accounts. Follow the same steps if you missed the notification. Then, using the second account, go to the Sharing tab at the bottom. You’ll see the person’s library there with the content that person invited you. Touch it. Click Accept to approve it.
Step 3. Save photos from first account to second account
When you accept the invitation, it doesn’t mean the photo will go to the second account. In fact, photos from the first account won’t even show up in the Google Photos library at this point. You can only access them from the Share tab in the bottom right corner.
So basically you need to save the photo. You don’t have to do it manually. Google Photos will do it for you. For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: Tap the Share tab at the bottom. Select the library of the first account.
Step 2: Tap the three-dot icon at the top and select Settings.
Step 3: Tap Save to your gallery and select All photos.
You’ll see the photos will now begin to appear in the Photos tab. Wait for the images to appear. Photos will be saved in the same quality (original or high quality) as available in the first account. You then need to remove the partner account from the first one, as shown in the next section.
Note:
Step 4. Delete partner account
For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Google Photos app and switch to the first account.
Step 2: Tap the Share tab at the bottom. Select Photos Shared With.
Step 3: Tap the three-dot icon at the top and select Shared library settings.
Step 4: Click Remove partner.
Tip:
The photo is successfully transferred to another Google account. They are now stored separately in the first and second accounts, where they act as completely different copies. You can do whatever you want with the photos on the first account.
Note: Archive photo
While the above method gives you certain options to select the photos that you want to move, you cannot select them manually. To do that, you can create a shared album and add photos to it that you want to transfer to another account.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Open the Google Photos app and switch to the first account.
Step 2: Click the Album tab at the bottom. Then tap New Album (if available).
If not, tap the Photos tab and open any photo. Swipe up and select Add to album. You need to create a new album and add photos to it.
Step 3: Enter a name for the album in the Add title box. If a photo is selected, tap the checkmark icon at the top, otherwise, tap Choose a photo.
Once the album is created, you’ll find it in the Albums tab. Open the album and tap the add icon to add more images. Select the photo you want to add.
Step 4: Open the album and click the share icon at the top.
Step 5: Select the person in the available contacts and click Send.
Step 6: You will receive a notification that the album has been shared on your second account. Open Google Photos with the second account and go to the Share tab at the bottom. Tap albums.
Step 7: Select the photos you want to transfer to your current account. Then, tap the Add to library icon at the top.
In doing so, all the selected photos will be available on your Google Photos. That is, such photos will have a standalone copy on the second Google Photos account. If you delete photos from the first account or stop sharing albums, the photos will remain in the second account.
Step 8: Wait for all photos to be transferred. After that happens, you can stop sharing the album from the first account. To do that, open the album included in the Share tab of the first account.
Tap the three-dot icon at the top and go to Options.
Turn off the toggle for Share.
