If Windows Phone is your primary device, then you will definitely use it for everything. One of the best things about using Windows Phone is the availability of native Office on the go and the phone’s ability to work well with Windows 8 PCs.
If you carry around a lot of Office documents or presentations that you then have to show your co-workers, or if you just want to show your family photos or videos on the big screen, you can do that using Microsoft Project My Desktop Application.
What is my screen project
Project My Screen is a companion app for Windows 8 PCs that allows you to project/mirror content displayed on your Windows Phone 8.1 device.
Right now, you can only do so when connected to USB (Wi-Fi support would be really appreciated, Microsoft).
Installing
First, download and install the companion app on your PC. This is a Windows application written by Microsoft, you will need to press the next button 5-6 times.
Launch the app and connect your phone via USB. You’ll get a notification on your phone asking if you’d like your PC to project what’s on your screen. Clap ALRIGHT and your screen will show up on your PC. This functionality is built into WP 8.1 so you don’t need to install any additional software on your phone.
How to use the app
You can use the mouse pointer to interact with the device on your Windows PC, and the changes will also take effect on Windows Phone. So you can upload a slide show or presentation and simply use the mouse pointer to change the slides. However, the physical keyboard input doesn’t work. You will need to use the software keyboard instead.
You can also just hold the phone in your hand and control the presentation/slideshow with a swipe of your finger.
By default, the app will put you in full screen mode. Use Shortcuts Alt+Enter or F to get it back.
You can switch the phone body image by pressing b key or go into immersive mode (where the screen takes up the entire window) using e shortcut keys.
When you switch from portrait to landscape on your phone, the changes will be updated on the screen. But if you want to force those changes without touching the screen, use left and right arrow keys to force left/right direction. The up/down arrow keys will be used to force portrait orientation and the spacebar will return the screen to the device default orientation.
judgment
Although this is a mirroring app, there is nothing else you can do with it. You can keep your phone attached to your PC, but you can’t control every aspect of it. You cannot use this application to send SMS or chat because the application does not support keyboard input. You will have to click each letter on the virtual keyboard and no one wants to do that.
I wish the app had done more, but for now it’s just for mirroring your screen.
