How to Merge or Link Contacts on Windows 8 People App

People Center Icon

Until now, I have always relied on my desktop email client, MS Outlook, to

manage my contact information

in my machine. But with Windows 8, I have a chance to switch to the People app. Besides being able to manage my contacts, I’ve found some other advantages in staying connected to my social accounts.

However, when importing contacts from various services I use, I noticed that I had multiple entries for some of the people on the list. For example, one from Facebook, one from Google, and one from Skype, all for the same person. Now, since I like to stay clean and tidy, this annoys me. I decided to do distributed merge and for my benefit the app provides a way to do it.

Cool Tip: We also discussed ways to import and merge contacts on MS Outlook and Outlook Mail. Let’s check them out.

Although you have to do it manually for each repeat contact, if you ask me, it is well worth the effort.

This is the process.

Steps to merge contacts on People app

We will show the process using an example. You can repeat it for all the contacts that you want to merge in your list.

Step 1: Navigate to the Start screen and launch the People app.

Step 2: From the contacts list select a contact that you want to merge with another number. You can search for one using the Charm bar search feature.

Select Contact

Step 3: Selecting a contact will open the contact information page for that individual. Right-click an empty space to bring up the menu in the bottom pane. Click link select.

Conclusion

I just took an example where you can see a person’s contact information appear multiple times from different services. You may have your own reasons for merging them. Whatever it is, it is useful and you will definitely need it at least once. So I recommend you bookmark the post so you don’t have to struggle to find it again. Also, don’t forget to share it with your friends who might need this. After all, who needs mess right?
