Nokia Camera Applications
Lumia Icon comes pre-installed with two main camera applications, Camera and Nokia Camera. While the standard Windows Camera is fine, I recommend using Nokia Camera for the full Lumia experience. By default, Nokia Camera stores two versions of each photo you take. One is a standard 5MP photo and the other is a high resolution 16MP photo.

Adjust camera settings manually
At auto settings, Lumia won’t be able to take a good picture. However, if you want to take a professional photo or even just play around to see what the camera can do, expand the toolbar on the right. From there, you can adjust white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed, and brightness all at once. Or, just swipe up the camera icon to see all the settings at once. According to the amateur user’s guide, a warning will appear when manual installation may result in unsightly images.
Flash or not Flash?
Strong flash tends to whiten close-ups and temporarily blind subjects in your photos. I tend to avoid using flash when areas are well lit. If you’re in a situation that doesn’t suit flash, such as a cathedral or old museum, try using a longer shutter speed while keeping the flash off. Just remember to keep your phone still!
There is one thing that bothers me about the camera on the Nokia Lumia Icon – even when I turn off the flash, it seems that the flash before taking a photo still appears. Turns out this is the Focus Assist Light. To prevent this pre-flash when manually turning off the flash, go to Menu, Settings and select set by flash. This way, the AF-assist illuminator will appear only when the regular flash is active. Or, if you prefer, you can turn off the AF-assist illuminator completely.
Other features
Both the front and main cameras are capable of recording video. The Nokia Camera app also features Smart Sequence, which gives you some fun ways to handle action shots.
