How to Keep Track of your To-do List in Mac With Ding

To-do lists tend to get more and more complex. If there are lists of different colors, a set of checkmarks and priorities, and all those options, it can be quite overwhelming if all a user wants is a simple to-do list to keep track of what they need to do. That’s how I came across Ding at first, and I haven’t looked back since. Ding is an extension that you can install on your Mac’s Dashboard and allows you to simply check and tweak your to-do list right in your Dashboard.

I recently wrote a guide on how to add widgets to your Mac’s Dashboard, in case you want a more comprehensive set of instructions.

Let’s see how to get started with this tool.

Visit Ding’s website to download the add-on.

02 Download Nails

Extract the .zip file. Double-click the extracted .wdgt file.

03 Dinh Episode1

Select Settings and the new extension will appear on your Dashboard.

04 Setting Nails

Ding’s interface is quite simple. Enter what you need to do in the What? and when do you need to do it in the When field? field. You can enter a specific date, such as April 22, 2012 or simply a day of the week if it is the next week. You can also enter a specific time to do it, or by default, Ding will notify you of the right time as you type.

05 Add New Event

Your event will appear like this when you’re done configuring it.

06 New Events

Clicking on the event will allow you to edit or delete it. Click the pencil icon to edit or the crosshair icon to delete.

07 Edit New Event

click I in the lower right corner will allow you to adjust the options of Ding. One essential feature that I have to enable is the Growl integration. Instead of just sounding the alarm at that time, a notification will also show up so you know exactly what to do without having to open the Control Panel to check.

08 Hobbies

Here is an example of Ding using Growl.

09 alarms

Ding is a fairly simple app and is definitely suitable for minimalist Mac users who want quick access to their to-do list. Just check your Dashboard whenever you want to see what you have to do!
