One of the most frequent things we do as web writers is image processing. Resize them, add borders, compress them, etc. In the online world, images play an important role in how your articles are consumed. They help you score high on those first impressions.
If you regularly post screenshots on social media or create headlines for posts, then you need to stitch different photos together. Today we’re going to look at how to quickly join images on the web, Mac, and iOS. If you want to merge images and turn them into PDF, check out our guide here.
Quick image tool for the web
Quick Picture Tools has a lot of online image editing tools, one of which is Combine images.
This site will give you a blank canvas and options to add and edit up to four images. To get started, click Add from the box at the top left and select the image. Then add another image choose Add top right button.
The controls for the image are laid out in the same way as the image output. So if you want to join two images side by side, choose Add left or right buttons. Instead, to join the images vertically, select the top and bottom images.
Once done, you can change the height and width of the image. It is important to note here that the image will only be resized in proportion to its aspect ratio. You cannot specify both width and height for an image.
Other options include rounded corners and the ability to add text to images. Another important feature is the ability to specify a background color. If you are adding images of different sizes, there will be some wasted space between them. Use this background color feature to specify a color.
PhotoJoiner for Web
PhotoJoiner is a simpler alternative to Quick Picture Tools.
To get started, select a photo, choose a layout, decide if you want to put margins between the pictures, choose a color, and you’re done.
I call it the simpler alternative to QPT because it does the tedious work for you. The site resizes the photos to make them proportionate to each other, meaning no space is wasted. The problem is that you only have two options. The image will be resized to either the largest image or the smallest image.
ImageJoiner for Mac
If you are a Mac user and find yourself needing to join images frequently, you may want to invest $0.99 in ImageJoiner.
It’s a menu bar widget. It has no application or GUI. All you do is launch the app, select your photo, and drag it onto ImageJoiner’s menu bar widget. The application will ask you to specify the export directory. In a few seconds the images will be concatenated and available there.
You can right-click an app’s icon to switch between landscape and portrait mode, but that’s all you can do.
Join iOS Screenshot using LongScreen
LongScreen for iPhone ($0.99) lets you combine screenshots in interesting ways. The app’s home screen shows all your screenshots. Tap to select a photo. From the top, choose landscape or portrait mode. First, go to Setting and move the slider if you want to add a margin between two pictures.
This app also allows you to remove the status bar when the screenshot has solid color. This means your battery icon will be at 100% and unnecessary icons will be removed.
After selecting the images, tap unify. You should see a preview now. To save an image, go to Share -> Save Image. You can also delete the original image from here.
How do you use them?
Now that you know how to concatenate images in different ways on different platforms, what do you plan to use them for? Let us know in the comments below.
