How to Integrate Google Calendar in Windows 10 Calender App

With Windows 10, Microsoft improved the Calendar app like most other apps. Gone are the live calendar branding and hideous user interfaces. What we have today is a simple and elegant Calendar app that everyone will probably use. But what’s the use of it if you can’t integrate your most used Calendar, Google Calendar, with it?

Win10 Gcal

We’ve done this before in Live Mail, but it’s a tricky business. Fortunately, things have improved and now it’s just a few step process. Let’s watch it.

Add Google account

Step 1: Open the Calendar app by searching for it in the Start menu. Go Settings > Account Management and click More account.

Add a Win10 Calendar account

Step 2:

In the newly opened dialog, select the Google account option and enter your credentials. if you

it will ask OTP.

Connect to the service

Step 3:

Finally, it will ask for permission to connect. Click

Configure Calendar

There are plenty of settings you can tweak to your liking to customize the calendar. Click your email address below the Gmail label to change the color of events from Google Calendar.

Keep Email Separate

Turn off Email Contacts

When you add your Google account, it will sync your calendar as well as email by default. If you want to separate them, you can turn it off by going to Calendar Settings > Account Management > Google Accounts > Change mailbox sync settings and disable Email below Sync Options.

Add events carefully

Select Calendar

This leaves me scratching my head as I don’t understand why the events I’ve added on the Windows 10 app aren’t appearing on Gcal. The answer is that you need to select Google Calendar while adding events, otherwise they won’t show up on Google Calendar.

Miscellaneous settings

Other settings include how often the app sends Google new email and calendar updates. Under Personalized menu in SettingYou can configure the color of the calendar, choose a light or dark theme, and a background image for the side panel.

Resovle problem

If the events are not syncing then you can try the following: Check if you have any firewall/antivirus software installed, which might be blocking the event. Add an exception in the firewall or in the Windows Firewall. Remove permissions for Calendar App by going to My Account > Sign In & Security > Connected Apps & Websites, in Google and reconnect your account. Try toggling the sync frequency below Sync contacts and calendar ARRIVE handmade and come back 15 minutes.

Other alternatives

If for some reason you don’t like the default Calendar app, there are alternatives for you. While they offer additional features, they cannot fill the gap of tight integration with Windows 10 which already provides the default calendar app. Popular ones are Thunderbird, Rainlender, Microsoft’s own Outlook, and the excellent VuMinder Calendar, which has the most features for a fee. There is a free version available but there are limitations, one of which is just a way of synchronizing Google Calender.

Conclusion

With Windows 10, Microsoft has paid attention to the available applications to reduce complexity. Hopefully this will expand into other areas, most notably the Windows Updates section. Please share your thoughts and comments with us.
